We are in Luxembourg City today! This morning in Esch we were trying to find an Internet cafe but couldn't. Paul's emails have been blocked by Microsoft because he's abroad so he needs to access them via a computer because of the police job etc, and we need to organise our ferries to and from Sardinia. We couldn't find an Internet cafe, but we did find a Carrefour express where they had another one of the orange juice squeezers and I took a photo! It tastes so delicious.
We got the train to Luxembourg City which took about 20/25 minutes, and started to walk towards the city centre. We turned off the main road down a steep hill towards the 'Grund', an area in the centre of Luxembourg which is like a village in the countryside within a city. There was lots of greenery and it was gorgeous. There were lots of people jogging and doing exercise (not my kind of people) and it was literally upwards of 35 degrees. Madness. We must have walked about 15 miles today easily. Anyway, we were down in this park and the city was up above us. We wondered how we were going to get back up to where we wanted to go, and there it was. A snaky road that went all the way back up to the top. There were signs saying it was a 20% incline and it took forever. At one point we went about a kilometre in the wrong direction and had to go back. We must have been walking up that hill for about an hour. I'll put photos from the bridge above in the photo album so you can see.
When we got up to the top we were wondering around and we came across a museum about Luxembourg and other bits in general. It was free for students so I told them I'm a French student and we got in. The floor about Luxembourg wasn't that interesting because it was all in German, but there was a floor called 'La Langue sans paroles' aka language without words. It was really interesting to see how body language and hand gestures are different in other countries.
There were other floors about people, jobs, sexism and the.body. It was interactive aswell and we really enjoyed it.
Then we remembered all we had eaten is a biscuit bar and wanted to find somewhere for lunch (it was about 3pm). Everywhere was closed for food but serving drinks, so I HAD to have a mojito in a Spanish bar. I absolutely had to have it. It was maybe the strongest mojito I've ever had but it was lovely.
We moved on to 'Le Chemin de la Corniche', a naturally formed balcony over Luxembourg City. It was an amazing view, and we could see exactly where we'd walked before. The buildings and houses were beautiful.
We were ravenous now so we started to head back to the train station, as there was a long road leading up to it with lots of shops and restaurants. It took us ages to find one serving food but we did. We both had an omelette with salad and chips, and a crepe for pudding. Then we started back along the road to the train station. We got back to Esch and went to the Carrefour express to get some drinks and a packet of sweets for the evening as we'd already eaten.
We got back around six and we were absolutely shattered so we just stayed in and went on the wifi. Paul hadn't seen the inbetweeners TV series, just the films, so we've been boshing them on YouTube.
Also, in the morning I forgot to put sun cream on. T shirt tan pictures to follow.
