(just to clarify, this isn't a picture I've taken - I just haven't managed to upload mine yet!)
So.... from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai on a 15h overnight sleeper train; from HatYai to Krabi on a minibus, from Krabi to Ao Nang in a tuktuk... and this is how we arrived in Thailand, after almost 24h of travel, ten days ago now!
Since then we've basically been hopping from place to place trying to take in as much of each as we can in the short time we have in Thailand. I absolutely love it here - it's friendly, hot, pretty and lively all combined - and not forgetting cheap! (It's also a bit sweaty, smelly and with lots of things that bite, but then you can't have everything!)
We spent a couple of nights at Ao Nang and a day at the beach there, lapping up all things touristy after the opposite experience in KL. From here we got the ferry over to Ko Phi Phi (pronounced Pee Pee) for a couple of nights, from where we did an afternoon boat trip to Phi Phi Leh where the beach from "The Beach" is located (though I had to watch the film that night in one of the film bars to be able to place it as I'd not seen it in so long!)
After this we went straight to Phuket, just for one night - went into Patong where, having not been to Bangkok yet, we had our first experience of seeing all the neon, ladyboys and gogo show venues etc - thankfully though we'd chosen a guesthouse in Phuket Town where it was rather quieter!
From here we travelled all the way through to the island of Ko Samui where we stopped for one night. This, unfortunately for us, coincided with the New Year celebrations which basically involve a 2 day long, nationwide water fight - which would have been amazing fun had we not been travelling with all our worldly posessions on our backs, which means not only could we not retaliate but that everything got soaked! Not fun at all at the time.
So we had a gorgeous dinner at a beachfront restaurant to cheer us up then went straight over to KoPhagnan the next day, up to Chaloklum in the north where we found a bungalow on a beautiful, quiet beach and had a relaxing night after a hectic past few days and in preparation for the next three nights south at HaadRin... which were amazing! This is the location of the famous full moon parties and although sadly we've had to move on before this month's (it's on the 20th) it's still one big beach party there every night - so we have had our share of buckets, fire shows and dancing on Sunrise Beach!
Yesterday we took a taxi boat up round the island to Than Sadet where we stopped to visit the Than Sadet waterfall. It wasn't quite the huge falls we were expecting but more a long rocky stream, but it was good to drag ourselves from the beach and do some exploring, climbing over the rocks, it really was pretty.
Today we've arrived at our final Thai island of this trip, Ko Tao. Again, it's beautiful, but with more of a calm atmosphere than Ko Phagnan. Our plans for here involve a massage and hopefully a scuba trip as it's a coral island... hard life aye?! Then its up to Chang Mai for some elephant trekking!
So from a hot internet cafe in Ko Tao I shall say bye bye for now, hope to upload my pictures soon...
