Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Hello all,
Just a quick update, as i am well on my way to becoming an English Language teacher, and thought i would update you on the course so far!!
Well.........so far, so good! The first week, they threw us straight in the deep end, and we began our english grammar training with a canadian teacher Ray.....verbs, nouns, adjectives, past simple tense, present continuous...... blah blah....i won't list the whole itinery.....but lets say we were bombarded with definitions and words galore.......was officially like being back in my Year 7 english class......except i 'really' had to listen, as Saturday i had my first exam!!!?!! The exam went well, and so now all our grammar lessons are geared towards this Fridays exam.....no rest for the wicked!!
Other than grammar lessons, we also had ten Thai lessons. Now i was always dire at languages at school, but really enjoyed these lessons with a Thai lady called Tin. This was so we had the experience of being on the receiving end of learning a language.....and it was very helpful for our every day lives whilst we are living in Thailand too......
Our final teacher is the adorable German....Stefan! He is a fantastic teacher......really has a way with students and he is our methodology teacher. He is the one who is teaching us 'how' to teach, which is a hell of a mission when you are faced with a class of students who do not speak a word of english and you do not speak a word of their native language......seems impossible, until Stefan shows you the way....and all becomes clear!! He is a talented man, and i wish i had him as my German teacher, as all would be a hell of a lot clearer now had that been the case. So far we have taken a couple of mock classes each, enabling us to get used to standing in front of a class and also run through a variety of techniques to achieve sucess when teaching a foreign language.
Is so much information to take in, and along with root canal treatment and being evicted from our house, has been a busy old week!! ha
So.......as you can see, am a busy bee at the mo, and Anja and I are having to kerb the drinking and late nights for our books and revision each evening.......oh the life of a 23 year old traveller eh!!??
Anyway, will update you accordingly should any other disasters occur or if i learn anything particularily interesting........for instance, i know know why Britain, Thailand, Japan, Australia etc drive on the left hand side of the road...........!!??!........what has that got to do with teaching a foreign language i hear you ask??....................absolutely nothing, its just one of the many useless facts i am learning now im back at school!!! ha ha
Love to you all
