Well well well.....another month on in 'Sydney Life'.....and plenty more to write home about!
I has been a jam packed month, and to honest i should have written this email a couple of weeks ago.....alas....time is no longer on my side...hence here is a full update on what February entailed here in Aussie Land!!
The 26th January saw the infamous AUSTRALIA DAY!!!! And wow what a day it was- was an aussie public holiday- so we were all off work and we headed into the city early to catch all the festivities......this included amazing parachute shows over the Opera house, a pirate ship boat race under the harbour bridge and yet again, in true aussie style, amazing fireworks in the evening over Darling Harbour. We spent the day walking the city seeing all the stalls and attractions that had been put on, including live bands all around The Rocks.......was a great day!
The following week, was the Outdoor Cinema in the Botanical Gardens.....Cat and i head over there to see Little Miss Sunshine, and as you can see from the photos it was the most idyllic setting, as the screen rose up from the water and behind it we had the most glorious view of the city and the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge by night.......was a great evening, and outdoor cinemas are so popular out here because of the weather so was nice that we had a chance to do it before it was over.
The following weekend was the end of an era as our Kiwi buddy Jen was leaving Australia to head back to New Zealand.....in her honour we had yet ANOTHER fancy dress party "In Your Wildest Dreams....." was the theme, and boy oh boy there was quite a selection.....we had everything from 60's chicks, cowboys, moulin rouge girls (me!!), blow up human air beds, piarates galore, and of course the expected men dressed as women.....it was a fantastic party, where we all made the effort once again to dress for the theme, and was a great way to say bye to our little Kiwi............
The 21st Februray was a very special day in Sydney.....as the harbour saw both the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth 2 arrive and dock in Sydney....the first time since the war that the two largest cruise ships have been in port together. Working for Sydney Ports for this occasion was amazing......we had tours down to the boats and found out all the intersting facts on the journeys of both ships, including getting an insight into the huge security needed to bring the two ships in. The evening, yet again, was celebrated with the sky being awash with a 12 minute firework display......was fantastic and rivaled the NYE fireworks, they were very impressive and we had a fantastic view for the whole evening.
February saw more of our friends here leave to go onto pastures new...including another Kiwi Daniel who was heading back to New Zealand and American James, who was going over to Northern Thailand to be a monk for six months!!!! As you do! So plenty of farewell drinks and dinners took place, including visiting The Cricketers Arms in Surrey Hills.....So you Seer Green peeps arent the only one with a local Cricks........ha ha
Last weekend was the infamous Mardis Gras festival.......a huge gay and lesbian love parade through the city and we head in to join the festivities- was a fantastic evening, meeting so many new people and having such a great time,. the parade was great- the glitter and sequins and the number of men dressed in glamourous outfits to suit the occasion was great, and it was an all night long occasion where we danced til dawn!!
Which brings me up to this week....where a rather big event happened.......I MOVED HOUSE!!!!!
With Cat and Paul both leaving next week to finish their travels, i have now moved in with 4 Kiwis from downstairs. Stacey and Sam, two friends and Jane and Dan a couple- the house is fantastic, its clean, its well decorated and we have the most comfortable furniture in the WORLD!!!! Am posting all the photos up this week including our house warming which took place this Saturday- so check them out- www.ellenmoriarty.com . So am now settled in the new pad, and am working here in Sydney until the 23rd May when i board a flight out of Sydney up to Cairns to meet up with Greg- yippppppeeeeeeee!!!!
Think that's all, hope you are all well, will write again soon when more interesting events occur, and until then, hope you are all keeping well, and will speak to you soon.
Much love, me xxx
