Ok, so after 21 hours flying with a 4 hour stop over i finally arrived in Sydney on Tues 4th, at 8 am feeling........so hyper and ready to explore! I managed to sleep quite well on the flight, Korean Air were very good
. Although i was pretty gutted that they were showing all the films i just recently paid to see at the cinema!
Anyway, i got a bus transfer to my hostel and had the misfortune of sitting behind a really smelly old man, so rather than taking in the sights i just sat there with my head in my jumper trying not to choke!Apart from this though, the whole journey from England went pretty smoothly.
My hostel is nice. A little dated but it has a really cosy and sociable atmosphere so i'm happy (It's like being in uni halls all over again). I had every intention of just dumping my stuff and heading straight out to look around, but in true Elle style i ended up just crashing out for the whole day! So Tues ended up being a write off really.
Wednesday, however, was very jam packed. I woke up really early- not like me at all, and since it was the middle of the night your time i cant even say it was the jet lag!First of all i walked up through the City Centre, taking in the Queen Victoria Building (a very famous shopping mall, but i didn't buy anything. I'll save that till the end!) to the Central Business District (the hub of Sydney), Circular Quay and the harbour, where obviously the bridge and the opera house are. Of course i took loads of photos! Then i jumped on a harbour boat tour, which if you hadn't already guessed it is just a tour of the harbour and surrounding coves on a boat! Again, i took loads of photos! I will put them up soon but at the moment they are all just view shots, with my head in a few as i try to take some of myself, since i have yet to make a friend who will take some of me instead! In the afternoon i walked round 'The Rocks', which is the old part of the town where much of the history is concentrated. A pretty tiring day with a lot of walking but seeing it all on foot meant i really got a feel for the city and the layout.
Today i woke up early again (i honestly do not know what is happening to me!) and jumped on a train out to Bondi Beach (Sydney's most famous beach). The weather these last few days has been really cold but at least it's still been sunny. Today however was p****** it down when i first left, so unfortunatly my photos of Bondi are quite grey to start with. But then the sun did come out later and i managed to get some nice ones. Bondi is really cool, although there were still some surfers and joggers there today i'd love to see how rammed it get's in the summer. Anyway, after i went back to the city and walked up to Hyde park and then onto the Australian Museum, which was really cool. I'm an expert on the Aboriginals now! Then in the late afternoon i.............CLIMBED THE HARBOUR BRIDGE
! I did the twilight climb, which was slightly more expensive but as the slogan says, it's "the climb of your life!" It was absolutly amazing, but bloody freezing also (even with my normal clothes, a climb suit, an extra pair of trousers, a fleece, rain jacket, gloves and beenie hat on!
). I'm glad i chose the Twilight climb as it meant i got to see Sydney by day and by night, and let me say, by night it was just beautiful! So obviously i got caught up in it all and spent a fortune on the photos- i guess i won't be eating for a few days! Anyway i met some people on the climb and am supposed to be going drinking with one of the girls and her dorm mates tonight- yay a friend at last
! Then tomorrow i've got a tour to the Blue Mountains booked and on Sat i leave Sydney and move up the coast to Surf Camp (a few hours south of Byron Bay), for an overnight stop and my first Surf lesson!
So that's all for now. I'll update you again soon. But for now i hope everyone is well and just so little granny doesn't worry so much mum, you can tell her i'm having a brilliant time so far!
Love you all
Elle
