I spent a few hours this morning wandering around Ho Chi Minh City for the last time before we packed our belongings into a taxi and headed for the airport...not quite as early as we should have! After arriving at the airport only an hour before our flight left and waiting in never-ending lines to check in we finally got to the counter...The man at the counter didn't really know what he was doing and we could hear that they were talking on their walky-talkies about us and Vietnamese being a language that none of us speak...well we didn't really know what was going on other than 'our plane leaves in 15...10...5...now (!) minutes' After our luggage was checked in and we were given our boarding tickets the man at the check in counter said "you run fast, plane is boarded three minutes ago" ........Ooops! So we ran through the airport, through security to gate number 10 (of course it was the one at the other end of the airport) before getting on a bus to take us to our rickerty little plane bound for Phu Quoc Island. After a 55 minute flight (surprisingly smooth for such a little plane) we arrived at at Phu Quoc, collected our luggage and packed it into yet another taxi. We drove for what was around 20 minutes before heading up a hill on a dodgy dirt track. Once at the top of the hill the taxi driver told us we had arrived at our destination we just needed to walk down the hill, so we did, and arrived at paradise. Here we found the ocean. It feels so nice to have the sand between my toes and to breath the sea breeze after being in the city where you didn't know what your next breath was going to smell like. We spent the afternoon exploring the beach, swimming until we became as wrinkly as sultanas and just breathing and relaxing after the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi. We will stay here for a few nights to unwind before i leave my family for my own great adventure in Thailand.
P.s. Tonights sunset was so beautiful, one of my favourite things about this earth is that it never fails to astound me with its beauty, even in it's simplest form of the sun going to bed.
