Onwards to Roma! Took the train in the main station, and then took the metro and the bus out to the camping Roma hostel. It was where the Top deck tour was starting the next day, so I thought I'd just stay the night the night before. Its outside the city, and because I arrived after dark, it was creepy as.
The top deck tour was beginning at 2 pm, so I had the morning to relax, and get some laundry done. There were eleven of us joining the tour in Rome, and 8 of us were in the laundry room. Great minds think alike!
We got tossed onto the bus right at 2, and went straight into Rome for a walking tour. Saw the Spanish steps, the trevi fountain, the pantheon. Had a little break here, and got a 'topdeck special' at the gelato place. Six flavors at once... So delish, and waay too much ice cream, but when in Rome, right? Then we headed over to the forum, and finished off with a nice night view of the Colosseum.
That night was our first group dinner, and us newbies mingled in with the others who had been on the trip for a week already. I really quickly realized that I was a minority, as there were 36 people total.... 2 Brazilians, 3 kiwis, 2 Koreans, myself and another Canadian, and the rest of them are Aussies.
After a big night and being introduced to buckets of cocktails, heading to the Vatican in the morning was a little rough. though we were all slightly hungover, I didn't get sick at the Vatican! However one of my fellow travellers now has the honor of being known as the one who puked at the Vatican. ;)
I did however get another forbidden photo of the Sistine chapel, which is not nearly as impressive as I expected, by the way!
After the Vatican we had a lovely traditional Italian meal at a little known establishment called McDonalds.
On to the Colosseum after lunch, walked around, and imagined we were gladiators. Checked out the circus maxim us, and then found the metro to head back to the campground. Dinner in the restaurant, and then some drinking games before heading to sleep.... Got to be up early for our very first bus day in the morning!
