Hi all,
Well, our last blog. We really enjoyed all the Wats around Siem Reap - apparently there are over 250 of them (no, didn't see them all!). They were built in the 9th-12th century but are really well preserved with intricate carvings of religous and everyday life. Our guide was great with a good sense of humour and we were privileged to have him tell us of his life during the Pol Pot era and how he survived the genocide. It was pretty hot and luckily we finished each day after lunch and could collapse around the hotel pool.
Right now we are in Mui Ne, a beach about 5 hours drive north of Saigon. It is beautiful - we have a bungalow with view of the beach, nice swimming pool, REALLY warm ocean and lots of kite-surfers to watch in the afternoon when the wind comes up. It gets up to 35 in the afternoons so we are in and out of the water. Malcolm spends all his time in the shade but, as usual, has got a burn (a pale English rose!)
We leave here on the 22nd so will have to say goodbye to fresh fish and seafood, fresh pineapple and papaya and endless sun :(
see you soon,
Malcolm and Elinor
