Here we are in Arizona!!
It took us 3 long driving days and one shorter on to get to shorts weather J On the way down we stayed at a casino and 2 WalMarts and after the first rainy day we had clear days, so lucky! We stayed 2 nights in Desert Hot Springs (near Palm Springs) at an RV resort and it was 85 degrees so we were forced to go to the pool (poor us J ) . This is our favourite place for grapefruit ~ you just stop at the side of the road and pick as many as you like. Yummy fresh-squeezed juice!! From there we drove 3 hours to just outside Yuma, where we camped on BLM land (free camping in the desert) and walked over the border into Mexico to stock up on medication (for Malcolm) and glasses (for Elinor ) ~ both at a fraction of the cost at home.
Tess is a great traveller but now has to get used to the heat and the prickles in the grass here ~ when she gets one she just stops with her paw held up, pretty cute!
We stayed in Yuma for 2 nights (see photo of the desert camping area) then drove about 4 hours to where we are now ~ Casa Grande, a city between Tucson and Phoenix. This RV Resort is pretty amazing ~ it has an 18 hole golf course running through it, swimming pools, 10 tennis courts, 36 Pickleball courts, lawn bowling, softball field, dances, crafts (like silver-smithing, stained glass, scrapbooking, woodwork, watercolour painting etc etc), interest groups (like computer, i-Pad, photography club, sewing, card games etc), fitness center with all new equipment and classes like Yoga/Pilates and Zumba and lots of social activities (we're going to the American Thanksgiving Dinner and Show) and for Tess there are a few dog parks (one right across from us) and a big one with all the agility obstacles ~ we take her there in the cart behind a bike! It rained here the the first 2 days but now the days are sunny and warm but still often need the furnace in the evenings and Elinor is cold in the mornings! Our site here has it's own 2 grapefruit trees and one orange tree so we're good for the mornings!
On Tuesday, after Elinor played Pickleball, we went with another couple to have fish tacos then they told us about a skydiving place close-by. Apperently it has the largest landing zone in the world and this week they were trying to set world records. We watched as 205 skydivers jumped from 9 planes, made a formation (sort of like a snowflake) then dropped apart and all opened their chutes at once - it was beautiful!! All of a sudden the whole blue sky was completely filled with bright parachutes. As they came lower you could hear the loud flapping of the chutes. They didn't do whatever they were aiming for and so are going to keep trying until Friday.
I wrote the above yesterday and today read some sad news - after we left yesterday 2 of the skydivers trying again got their chutes tangled and died. So sad.
We're staying here until Dec 15th when we're off to Tucson.
Hope all is good with you ~ please send us your news J
Malcolm and Elinor (and Tess, of course!)

Barbara Great blog....till the sad news at the end :(
Frank and Lynn Hi Guys. Sounds like you are staying just south of the cold snap happening everywhere. Does Malcolm play pickle ball too? Seems like a nice spot that you are staying in. How long? Will try to stay in touch, Frank and Lynn
