Hi All! Apologies for lack of updates recently - we have been rather busy! Will try to give you the lowdown on what we've been up to over the past week or so.........
Bundaberg - we spent a few nights at this little coastal town, mainly to check out te tutrles as this is one of their prime breeding grounds. We set off on ou r guided walk onto Mon Repos beach, straight away we saw a loggerhead tutrle which had just finished laying her eggs. This was really lucky as it is now hatchling season rather than nesting so to see a biggun was pretty special. As she hadn't laid above the high water mark we had to help responsibly move the eggs further up the beach which was pretty cool. Later in the evening we also got to see baby hathclings scuttling down to the sea - rather amazing! Also in Bundy we visited the ginger ale factory which was surprisingly good and also had picnic by the beach.
Hervey Bay - stopped here mainly to see Fraser Island. Went out on a one day tour in a mega four wheel drive. Got to see the main sights in the island including - rainforest walk, coloured sands, eli creek (beautiful), shipwreck, and swam in one of the freshwater lakes. Fun packed day!
Noosa - stopped off at this small spot as been recommended by others - turned out to be a rather nice place, good shops, restaurants, we got to see our first proper surfing as well. Had to have a new windscreen put into the van (might have something to do with the fact a bird flew into it the other day!!) so we cheered ourselves up with a spot of retail therapy!!!
Australia Zoo - great day at Steve Irwin zoo, got to feed elephants, watch crocs, cuddle kangaroos and koalas. Loved the wombats as well.
Brisbane - been into the city today, really nice atmosphere, quite chilled out for a city. We did a walking tour from the guidebook, managed to see lots of stuff including - art gallery, clock tower in city hall, cathedral, shops, botanical gardens, nice posh lunch in skyscraper district, river cruise, lagoon swim on south bank.
Pictures will be up soon we promise!!!
