Ok guys. This is the second time I have tried to write this update so excuse the fact that it might be quite long, boring and seem like the stuff isn't very exciting.
Queenstown part 2 - The day after our rafting and jet boating we took a day trip down to Milford Sound to see the fjordlands. Pretty impressive stuff although we did have to spend 10 hours on a bus!!! The following day we took the skyline gondala up the hillside and took in the views of Queenstown before a bit more luging - you'll all be pleased to know that I was victorious (gravity is on my side) and that Ele performed as you may expect most females to - she drove me off the road and forced me to crash!!!
Dunedin - We found Dunedin to be quite quiet - it was Easter Sunday and Monday - but we still made a trip to Cadbury world and also took a drive up the steepest hill in the world - it is in the guiness book of world records if anyone fancies checking. Picked up the certificate for that achievement. A real high point opf my life.
Christchurch - Not much here although we did take a punting trip on the river avon. Ele was having Cambridge pangs!!! Can't say it was particulalry beautiful either.
Hammer Springs - Hadn't heard of this place till we got to the south island but it turned out to be pretty cool. We arrived to see the first snow of the season sitting on the nearby mountain tops. An awesome sight. We then hired a peddle bike and drove that around the town before going out to on a quad biking trip which was great fun. We finished off the day in the thermal baths which was a good way to finish a rather hectic day.
Kaikora - We only managed one of the two trips we hoped to here cos the seas were too rough to go out and whale watch. We did however manage to go swimming with dolphins which was fantastic. The boat would drop us into the water in front of a whole groups of dolphins and we would act as their entertainment with them doing circles around us. Amazing!!!
Wanganui and New Plymouth - Spent a night in each after crossing back over to the north island. Not much to report on each although the sea was cold and we couldn't see the nearby Mt Egmont cos of cloud cover.
Waitomo - Ele managed to overcome her fear of caving to go on a 3 hour trip into Waitomo caves. Great experience crawling through tunnels, jumping off waterfalls and black water rafting down the river whilst looking up at the gloworms.
Bay of Islands - Arrived here yesterday and went out sailing today in the bay. We were on a 70ft catermeran and helped to do sailing stuff - basically I got to help hoist the main sail - twice!!! We stopped in a bay for lunch and we took a couple of sea kayaks out to explore the area before the weather turned a bit sour and we had to sail back in the rain!!! Good fun though.
So that brings you guys up to date. Only got a few days left in New Zealand now and we've both really enjoyed it. Looking forward to Fiji though - th sun will be much appreciated.
