Well here we are in NYC right at the end of our tour - for those of you still reading(!) this will probably be our last blog as we leave for home tmw.
So we got here last Sunday and spent Monday and Tuesday being tourists. Monday the weather was rather terrible so we had no choice but to hit a museum. Spent a few hours in MOMA in uptown and had a nice time looking at all the modern collections. Luckily when we came out the rain had eased so we decided to have a wander round Fifth Avenue, checking out FAO Schwarz (big kids) and the huge Apple store as well as lunch in the Trump Tower and a very brief trip to Tiffanys. Decided to walk down to Times Square via Broadway. Ended up walking a fair few blocks down Manhattan, by the time we'd done about 30 we gave up and hopped in a subway to get to the end of the island where we are staying. David and Kirsty (my cousin and his wife) have let us stay with them in downtown and we can see the Empire state from the window - pretty cool stuff! In the evening we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and went to an awesome authentic Brooklyn pizza place, it was super crowded and people were practically sitting on each other - great fun and the pizza was really good!
Tuesday the weather was beautiful so we decided it would be a good day to see the Statue of Liberty. Got on the Staten Island ferry for some great views. Back on dry land we had a wander around the seaport, collecting our last few bits from Abercrombie :). Then walked up to Chinatown and Little Italy before getting to Spring Street. Basically a part of Broadway that has endless shoe shops - I found my Ugg boots at last so am very happy - Chris not so much! Back to the apartment to freshen up before going to a super posh steakhouse in midtown called 'Delfriscos' - good stuff.
Wednesday we headed off early to 37th street to get on our bus tour to Niagara falls and Canada. After a long day of travelling through New Jersey, Pennsylvania and then back into NY territory we finally got to the falls. We walked across to the Canadian side as this is where the best views are. Got to see them in the light and also in the dark when they put on a light show - very impressive stuff if a little commercialised. The next morning we went on a walk along the American side seeing the waterfalls really close up. Then we got on Maid of the Mist which takes you right into the mist (surprising that!), Got soaked but the views were pretty amazing.
Back onto the coach to cross the Canadian border. Saw some pretty places on our way to Toronto including Niagara on the Lake and a really nice orchard place! Got to Toronto around 2 and had a guided tour of some of the sights before a couple of hours to look around ourselves. Saw the CN tower and City hall etc. Left Toronto at 5 to drive to a place called Kingston. Friday we were up early for a boat cruise around the Thousand Islands. Really pretty place and the weather was perfect, got some good views of another castle built by a rich man! Back to the bus to drive back to NYC, long day as we didn't get back until about 7 but we've had a great few days. Last night we hit the town and Chris drank a quart of beer from a styrofoam cup in a place with bras on the ceiling! Interesting place. We did end up in a few more upclass joints but were probably far too roudy by that point to appreciate them to the full! Anyways we are both suffering a bit today but plan to head out to the city and see a few more sights before our flight tomorrow evening.
