Well we've had a rather lazy week out here, trying to get used to being beach-bums (very hard work as you can imagine!!). I think the last entry we were in surfers paradise so I will attempt to give you a round-up of our activities (or lack of!) over the last week:
Surfers - we went to Wet and Wild on our second day which was great fun. Went on this awesome ride called 'Tornado' which basically involve Chris and I in a double tube being launched down a waterfall and then into a giant funnel before being plopped out the other end (after going through another waterfall!) - wedgie central! Lots of other great rides as well. Next day we went into Surfers again, sat on the beach all morning but got sooooo hot so hit the shops for a bit. The swimming in the sea here was pretty extreme, waves almost knocking you over if you're caught unawares, there were 17 rescues the day before just in this one 100m wide patrolled area!
Byron Bay - absolutely beautiful spot a bit further south from Surfers. Far less commercialised and had a kind of hippy feel to it which was fun. First day here we watched sunset on beach and had a swim at low-tide which was great as you could wade out with water below your knees for ages. Second day Chris rented a surf board for 3 hours - think we picked a silly bit of the beach (but the lady recommended staying near the patrolled area as a beginner) where the waves were breaking twice, needless to say Chris was rather battered about and dejected when his time was up! Maybe we will find somewhere a bit calmer down the coast where we can both have a proper go! On our last day in byron we decided to go for one of the walking circuits in our guide. Stupidly we didn't realise that this 'walking circuit' would actually turn out to be close to a climb going up and down great big sea cliffs! Ok so thats exaggerating a bit but anyone would when its 33degrees plus and no shade!! We did get to see a cool lighthouse about halfway round and best of all loads of dolphin and turtles way down below - fantastic. On the rainforest stretch of the walk I unfortunately got my first real sighting of a snake - it was only little but big enough!!
Coffs Harbour - arrived here yesterday, really nice campsite. Spent the afternoon in the pool. Come into town today - need to buy new flip flops desperately as mine are going mouldy! yuck! Beach this afternoon!
