Bula everyone! haha. I got so fed up of saying that in Fiji, they use it for everything: Hello, welcome, cheers etc. so you're constantly saying it! They even have a bula dance which is abit like the Macarena lol.
So, we arrived in Fiji on 14th June, after a very turbulant flight.. (little bit scary) and had to get up for 7 the next morning to make our transfer from the hostel to the port. When we arrived at the port it was absolute chaos lol there were people everywhere and no one knew where they were going - including us! We had this thing called the "bula" pass which meant we could go to any of the islands, but we had no idea where to start. Fortunately we met Rosie and Steve (from Epsom) and Sarah (from Yorkshire) who were in exactly the same position. We all decided on one of the most northerly islands - a place called "the Bay of Plently". It took us 6 hours to get there, but it was awesome - really tiny and family run. There were only 7 guests (including us) at the resort! On the first day we learnt how to open coconuts with a machette lol and spent the evening playing a game called Coconut swing which involves tying a coconut attached to a rope around your waist and swinging it in order to hit another coconut (on the floor) to the finish line lol and we also learnt the Bula dance - which I will teach you all when we get back! The accomodation at BOP was pretty awesome but basic - all of their power comes from a generator which runs from 6 - 10 and thats it, there's also no hot water on any of the islands which is eventually worse than it sounds - especially when the weather's not that hot. The first night we had a very unwelcome vistor in our room: the first cockroach I've ever seen, which was about 2 inches long! I stayed out of the way while Danny and Steve tried to squish it which took quite a few attempts as it was so frickin' big! The next day we were taken to vistit the local school which was awesome, everyone is so pleased to see you because they dont get a huge amount of visitors. We sat in on one of the classes and all the kids introduced themselves to us and sang us some traditional Fijian songs - they were all so cool! In the afternoon we were taken by boat to the "blue lagoon" which is very, very blue! We were pretty much the only people on the beach apart from some angry naked people, who had an argument with some resort staff who asked them to move off the private bit of the beach.. this guy was properly naked and having a full on argument - it was pretty hard to take him seriously.
The next day it was time to move on to the next island; we ended up at a resort called "white sandy beach" which is a whole other story - I'm runing out of time so I shall cover the rest of Fiji in part 2!
LA is pretty cool, we're probably going to move on to Canada soon though and unfortunatly our funds are running low so we might be seeing you sooner than you think! lol.
Missing you all muchly, wish you were here.
