After a very turbulent flight on Egyptair - who I will never fly with again - I arrived in Cairo at around 5am (Egypt time). The airport transfer people met me before the border and told me that there were other people on the same flight at me. It was reasonably easy and quick to get through border control, but I swear my bag took forever to get through... Eventually it came through and I met the other two who where on the flight. By the time we got into the car the sun had risen fully and we were able to get our first glimpses of Cairo and some of the protesters that were out early. Not only that we saw an army tank within about the first 10 minutes.
Thankfully I had booked emergency accommodation for the night before so I could go and have a snooze before getting up for breakfast. There I met another person who was on the same tour. We decided that we didn't want to stay in the hotel for the day and decided to go for a walk around Cairo. Within the first 15 minutes of our walk we came across a man named Tommy who asked us to come back to his shop to see what he could offer us. Very warily we made our way to his store where we viewed testimonials of other people who had seen what he had to offer, we decided to give it a go. Still apprehensive Tommy told us that we didn't have to pay until we got back to the store where he bought us dinner. But I bought all my souveniers in the first day.
We saw many temples, The City of the Dead, Mohammad Ali's Family Tombs. We also Papyrus being made and made a few purchases. I also purchased a few pieces of silver jewelery. With approximately 100 photos taken today, I can't wait for tomorrow.
