Chennai, India
Wow first 5 dyas in India have been hectic!!
Have visited 2 temples in Chennai, but most of the time has been taken up by the celebrations for my Friend Divya's weddng. We spent the hen party at a beech house 45 mins south of chennai. We had a henna party at Div's grandma's house. Our hads and feet were painted- The brides took 3 hours to do but it was spectaculr! We ate and then the festivities continued with some Bangra(cant find a spelling!) dancing.. the brits and aussies tried our best but really couldnt compete witht th locals!!
We spent 2 days shopping for saris and accessories.... We wore one for the ceremony and another for the evening recption. Te ceremony was amazing. i had no idea how much is involveed in a hindu wedding. There were 400 people at the ceremony and 800 at the reception and Im told this was a low key wedding!!
There was a group of us who'd been Div's flatmates in London and she made sure we we got up close and even involded us in some of the ceremony- we all followed her procession back down the isle after the groom's family had presented her new sari.
There are two many rituals to explain but my fave is after the mariage has taken place the bride and groom accompanied by friends and family compete in a series of games, competing for rings and even a slangingmatch....all lighthearted of course
Just one party to go! Divs friends and family have been so welcoming and OI feel priviledged to have been here.
check out the photos!! El x.
