So the time has come for me to move on! Whilst I did enjoy most of my time at Speculation, it was definitely time for a change. My last couple of weeks there were reasonably quiet, with the exception of last weekend, when Bruce and co had to go to Rocky again. I wasn't allowed to stay at Speccie by myself so instead I went to 'work' on another property just south of Jericho called Summerdell, owned by a lovely couple called Kim and Leanne. It turned out that I didn't really have to do much work & instead had a pretty relaxing weekend. On the saturday I just read for the morning and then after lunch we went mustering - although that only lasted for a maximum of an hour! Let's just say it was a little bit exhilarating - Leanne kept randomly galloping off & my horse was a bit jumpy so wanted to follow her. Oh and they didn't have proper hats etc, which they do at Spec. Nothing bad happened though so that"s okay! That evening they had been invited to a bbq so I went along with them to that. It was at another property nearby, which was quite interesting as it had been in the same family for 98 years, and there were still three generations living there. It was absolutely freezing and we didn't leave until 1am so I ended up being very tired - especially as I've been in bed at 10 nearly every day for the past 3 months!
On the sunday morning me and Leanne did a tour of the property to check that the water troughs and tanks etc. It was definitely interesting to see another property, as the land looked pretty different to Speccie. They had a slightly spooky delapidated hut in one remote part, which didn't look like it had been touched for decades. There was still cutlery and open tins etc in the kitchen, along with a kerosene fridge and an old wood burning stove. In one room there was still a newspaper on the floor dating from 1955! I didn't have to work that afternoon either, so I just read some more and watched a film. Bruce stayed there on Sunday night and we went back to SPeculation in the mroning.
On wednesday we left for Barcy. Bruce had just bought a second hand car for his daughter which was in Jericho, and so I had to drive that into Barcy. It was an automatic, which I haven't exactly had much experience driving, so I was a little scared that the last thing I'd do for them was ruin their new car, but of course I was just being paranoid! I said my goodbyes and then went to the Artesian 'Hotel'', to catch the train the next morning.
I can definitely say that the train journey wasn't a highlight of my trip so far. No offence meant to central queensland, but the landscape doesn't exactly change very quickly and the train line isn't fantastic and so the train seems to move VERY slowly. I got talking to some other people in the carriage, one couple of which were also 'poms' from somewhere near Heathrow. I remember an amusing conversation trying to explain to the australians that despite only living about 2 hours away from eachother, that wouldn't count as close in England, where as out here you'd be practically neighbours!
Anyway I am now in Cairns, after a horribly long and dull train journey! This hostel actually looks like one of the nicest I've been in, and it was pretty cheap so that's good! I've got the weekend free and then if all goes to plan on monday I'll be starting the scuba diving!

Mum Enjoy being a tourist again, and good luck with the diving!
Jess Aww that's sad that you've left, I bet you'll miss it later. Have fun diving! Oh em gee, get some sort of... device... so you can take pictures under water. I am so jealous of your picture skillzzz, Emily. Seriously. And driving an automatic! I had a dream about that the other day and I crashed... weird. I'm guessing my latest letter got last? Ah well, YOU'RE HOME SOON! Text me as SOON as you get back (and maybe after you've had a sleep). Lovelove, stay safe xxx
Tina Have a great time in Cairns and diving. I've really enjoyed your Speculation pictures, especially the animal ones.
