Slight change of plans from what I said last time! One of the girls I was going to travel with got sent off to her job straight away, and my job didn't start til the 10th so I still needed to find something to do. Brisbane was actually getting pretty boring, as it was pouring with rain and we were running out of things to do that wouldn't be very expensive. We also figured that going to the great barrier reef wouldn't be that much fun in this weather and also that the fish might have been disrupted due to the tsunami after the Chile earthquake. So instead me and friend, Matthieu, who also did the ranch training course, decided to rent a car and go on a road trip down the Eastern coast to get to Sydney.
It turns out that the driving wasn't actually that much fun, as it was basically raining solidly for 2 whole days! It was also a bit of a shame as I'm sure the scenery looks a lot better in the blazing sunshine that Oz is famous for. Anyway, we still had a good time! We stayed in a hostel in a small town called Ballina on the first night, and then in a place called Newcastle on the second.
We arrived in Sydney this morning to sunshine (finally!) and found the hostel that I'd booked earlier. It's a bit dodgy actually, doesn't seem very clean and it's really messy so I think I'm going to try and move to another if possible. Matthieu is flying to Perth to start his job tomorrow morning so I will have a few days to sightsee here. I'm going to try and do as much free stuff as possible as the funds are definitely begging to run low! I've seen a couple of pretty cheap day trips into the Blue Mountains advertised so I might do one of them as I want to see them whilst I'm in this area. I will catch a 15 hour bus back to Brisbane on Monday, and then a 16 hour bus to a town called Barcaldine, near my job, straight after. So that's a good 30 hours on a bus to look forward to!
Hope everyone is well, keep in touch :) xxx
