In Avignon we stayed inside the walls of the old city where we had an amazing view of the Palais de Papes, which was illuminated at night. The first day we took the little train around the town and picked up ingredients for lunch at the local market. The next day we did a day trip to Gordes. On the way we had a great Provençal lunch at La Bergerie in Maubec. The heat was too much for us and we headed off for the nearest piscine municipale. The next day we took the passenger ferry to the Ile de la Barthelasse where we did a nice walk followed by refreshing glasses of local Rosé (and Orangina). Dinner was another great Proveçal meal back in Avignon. The indoor fresh market with delicious chorizo and heirloom tomatoes was a favorite and, of course, the pool- much needed to cool off with the very humid 103 degree weather.
