Dinner at Pirmas Dublis
Researching places to eat has always been one of my must dos before embarking on a trip. Pirmas dublis wasn't on any of the guidebooks but was recommended online, the reviews were fantastic and I was intrigued. There wasn't a clear description of the cuisine served but that's probably because of how special each dish was. It was 75 litas for a five course meal with fantastic service and food, what a bargain!
Starter 1 : turkey with tapioca pearls and bread made from flour, water, barley wheat, beetroot juice, seeds
Starter 2 : chicken stock, hazelnut cream, 4 grains
Main : beef tenderloin with root vegetables and beetroot&carrot purée
Dessert : frozen blueberries, strawberries, raspberries with cream, lavender and grain
On tops of all that, their Chardonnay (13 lt a glass) and beetroot juice (8 lt a glass) was absolutely complimentary to the dishes. The vegetable of the night was very much beetroot, everything else was secondary. But beetroot done right is so so good. With limited spaces and a very casual ambience, the place felt welcoming yet has a certain air of exclusivity with only 20 spaces or so per session. Definitely a must visit in vilnius!
