Well here it is eh? The first stop on my big adventure! I have a rough idea where im heading on this trip, but I have no idea what is in store for me! The beginning of a new chapter is always like that I suppose. I could never have dreamed that the last 5 years would have turned out the way they did. I feel truly blessed to be able to undertake this trip and I look forward to all that awaits me.
Hong Kong proved to be the ideal first stop. It is steeped in tradition, but still really is a ‘western city’. My sister Petti had a friend in Hong Kong who proved to be a massive help, all the accommodation was sorted before we arrived and we had someone to meet us when we got there. In Kennis we also had an amazing guide who showed me some of the best places in the city, as well as the best places to eat (pretty much everywhere I went was for local people).
Hong Kong island itself is a city with amazing skyscrapers, beautiful parks, mountainous terrain, the latest gadgets and gizmos, excellent markets….pretty much has something for everyone.
We stayed on an island called Lamma which was about 30 mins by ferry from Hong Kong Island. It was an extremely peaceful place with no cars, it really was the ideal getaway from all the hustle and bustle of the city vibe.
We saw temple after temple, giant Buddha statues (HI-5!!!), went up to the peak to catch a view of the whole city, went to beautiful beaches, hung out at the markets. Had some the best food I ever had (my chopstick game is up to ‘fly catching’ standards by now!)
It really was a shame to have to leave Lamma and Hong Kong, but after a week it was time to say goodbye, pick up our backpacks, and head out for our next stop….CHINA!!!!!!!!
To Kennis I want to say thank you for all you did for me and Ryan. I hope u remembered all the slang we taught u to say (nobody says ‘berk’ in England, use what we taught u!) Well not all of it actually because you might find yourself in a bit of trouble! And always remember…..MACHO MACHO MAN….I WANT TO BE, A MACHO MAN!!!!!
