The Bowman Adventures
We've had great fun spending the last few days of our tour in the pantanal wetlands. A bird lovers paradise and I soon got enthusiastic about twitching, spending quality time with the miami scientists and their binocularswatching fly-catchers. Ed on the otherhand got involved in some male bonding Caiman spotting. He was disappointed his loving wife wouldn't let him wade in and swim with them as the crazy dutch guy and our guide did on a couple of occasions. (This is because I became quite irrational about the potential for catching life threatening diseases from the stagnant swamp land). So instead we stood at the waters edge, piranha fishing. Ed got bored after half an hour of not catching anything and managed to hook a bird from the tree above, a sight not witnessed by the guide in his 9 years of experience!! The adventures didn't stop there - minutes later the dutchman was attacked by a piranha, and is developing an impressive scar on his left hand. Finally I achieved my goal of persuading Ed to go horse riding!! He did well, and relaxed into a nice lesuirely walking pace at the back of the group, but 2 hours into the ride accidently found himself in a canter, I managed to catch him up and advise how to slow down, so there were no injuries thank goodness (no hard hats over here). 2 days later and we're still a little saddle sore from the 3 hour trek but sunburn has overtaken as the main health issue in a quaint seaside town north of Salvador. (Which took 20 hours and 3 flights to get here............this country is some size) We plan on relaxing for a few days pondering over the stresses and strains of returning to work etc. and the excitement of catching up with friends and family. THis could well be our last postcard,........................thanks to you all for keeping in touch. The website's been a huge success as has our journey, to bore you with more tales and dozens of photos we'll be in touch with you on our return............. loads of love Ruth and Ed
