Hey All.
So what a wicked few days I have had. The night of the 27th. I was really tired cause I hadn't slept in a few days. Got up the next morning at 930, went and got my free muffin for breakfast, and got in the bus with the others from the hostel and went to the beach.
Met a with Sarah from Aussie and Lucy and Mel from England. We spent four hours at the beach, going in and out of the water. The waves were very strong so I had lots of fun but the girls kept getting knocked over. Lucy even came out with a graze on her hip.
From there we went back to the hostel and just hung out there for the rest of the night. I was staying in Inglewood. For those that listen to rap music you will know that its not the safest place. The whole time I was in LA I did not have to buy food, because of the hostel snacks.
29th. I got up at 6am, which is equivalent to 1am back home on a Saturday night so I really should have just been going to town to party. I packed my bag in the dark.
Went to the bus stop to take a 1hour and half trip to the Greyhound station. Bus did not come for a long time so I waved at a taxi and he took me there for $40, I managed to talk him down to that from $60.
Hanging out in the Greyhound station was very interesting, pretty much just like at home - dodgy people. There I watched Ted Kennedys Funeral.
It took ages to get out of the City. I went past war memorials, theme parks, massive suburbs of houses that all looked the same, billborards every 500m for most of the trip and trains carrying massive loads with over 100 carriages and most of them had two crates high on them. We stopped three times the first time I thought it was hot, but it just kept getting hotter. As it was all dessert to Phoenix there were a lot of cactuses, all different shapes and sizes, I found the whole bus trip a wicked experience. Getting into Phoenix is was so hot, it was like when you open the oven door and the heat comes up at you. The whole town was empty because people do not go outside - its too hot. I then got another taxi to the airport where I was meeting the ACE organization.
I was expecting like 4 people, there were 26 of us. We then drove to Flagstaff, where ACE have 6houses.Total volunteers in Flagstaff is 100 people. It is amazing, there is pretty much a person from every country in the world here. I live in a house in the city centre known as the party house cause it is so central. There are 25people in this house. They are all amazing people, cant wait to get to know them more. There is 50% boys and 50% girls out of the whole volunteers.
Today I had orientation were we went to Buffalo park and talked about the rules and what we are going to do and then had a tour around the city and I went to WalMart. Flagstaff is very high at altitude, I believe 2000meters. There Humfreys hill that you can walk up that I hope to do on Tues that is higher than Mt Cook. Flagstaff has about 50,000 people and 20,000 of them are students. So it is going to be a wicked time here. The current volunteers love it here.
I am so excited, and really happy to be here. Tomorrow I have safety orientation and start my first project on Tues or Wed.
Until next time. . . . .
