Back with the team of Sam. Laurence and CJ again. The only other volunteer is Step we also have Frey, Danial (sweden), Ana (Spain), Carlijn (Holand), Corinne (England). This crew has started out alot louder than the other one, prob helps we can talk over the music this time and Sam and I am continuously joking with each other. We have arrived at this hitch one day earlier, so will be working 9days. Looks like there is alot more food this time which is good. First morning I had Frey to help me do the outside liner rocks. I tought him everything I knew and was about ready to let him be in control but Sam took him away and I just worked alone next to the inside liner guys Dan and Stef. Me and Stef cooked dinner and then caught up with the rest of them to watch the sunset over the Canyon. I counld never get sick of the canyon I love it out here. We then sat next to the fire and played the ship came to the harbour four 4hours.
Wed - Good rock day today got 5 in. It rained really hard just after lunch. We worked through it for an hour until thunder sounded then we dropped tools and got under a rock. One of the girls today gave me the idea to hitch a ride to vancouver instead of taking my flight.
Thur - Out in the best office in the world again. We moved a massive rock so that it didnt fall and get a hiker, we will then cut it up and use it as liner rocks, I got some of it on video. After work some of us walked further down the trail to ohh ahh point. The name comes from the view, it is amazing. The best view yet and thats saying something. This trip is cool cause its the last hitch on the sounth rim for this year, so Sam is trying to do all the cool stuff one last time. Sam says be carefull to me alot as I go close to the edge and jump around. So on my way back up I was looking over and lost my balance and almost fell, it was a good adrenaline rush.
Sat - Yesterday the inside line got there first rock in for the hitch, so it was a good day. We went and played ultimate after work, my toe is still really sore, might just give it a few more weeks to heal. The first day Sam gave me a goal point to get my liner rocks to by Wed, just have to put two more in and I would have made it. One of my favourite games we play during the day is international hello, where everyone says hello in there country's native language, it could keep me amused all day. Tomorrow is Stef's birthday, i will be singing Happy Birthday to him at 545 when we get up and exactly 24years after his birth. I had to cut alot of my nail off as it had alot of dirt under it.
Mon - Yesterday we had a funny day trying to get as many hikers as we could sing him happy birthday. Stef and I cooked dinner and then took everyone out to five fingers view point. Looking at the stars, it was windy and I love that sound one of my favourite. Today Matt Roberts came to visit. I finished my wall today, over the last month I have had 7 people help me out along the way but I have never left it. It will be cool to come back with my kids to see it. Everyone is shattered we have worked hard for 7days straight 2more to go.
Tue - Was the last full day, I headed off up trail with the slab splitter to split rock for the inside line so they can get done in time. The Sam got me to work on the inside line by myself and took the others away. Throughout the day i helped roll big rocks for the line, now i have half a day to fit the final rock, its a big ask but im sure it will get done. I challenged Stef to a race up the canyon and the winner gets a twix and Mt dew drink. I was stoked when he accepted and I won. Today I challenged him again and won again. So today I finally got something from the shop. We go to the shop often, but I never get anything to save my little money.
The final day Sam and I worked on the final rock and we worked really hard, I was alittle stressed to get it done so hit my finger 5times in the same spot thats more than I have done since ive been here. We got it done with 30min to spare. I then pushed the wheel burrow up the canyon with the fuel and some tools in.
Wed night Me Sam and Ana went to the Orpheum Theatre for the Old Crow Medicine Show Concert. They are pretty much the only music I have heard this month so I knew most of the words and we had such a wicked time. Alot of CREC people were there too.
Yesterday we climbed Mt Humphreys. There we 7 of us and we didnt star untill noon cause he had some of Sams winner pancakes, they really are good. It took us 5hours to get to the top and the altitude was intense I was swaying, blurry vision, bad speech(but thats normal), I really enjoyed it kinda like an outer body experience. I had a sore stomach for the whole climb and really needed to go to the number two toilet and just thought id hold on then when we got way out of the woods I just jumped off trail and went. It was such a wicked view. As there were no plants around I had to use spiky rocks, normally smooth rocks are ok but these rocks made it interesting. It was cool to go higher than any point in NZ. Im really enjoying this trip and having a blast, my next to projects are wicked I got really lucky.
