Had a great 4 day tour of Australia's central outback. To start the tour we drove toward Kings Canyon (stopping off to ride a Camel on the way!). We took a walk all around the canyon taking in the breath taking views and getting a flavour of the heat, desert and the flies that keep flying into your mouth! We then headed off to our camp at Uluru (Ayres Rock) wehere we were based for the ramaining of the trip.
We managed to fir in 2 sunsets and 2 sunrises and walked the whole base of the big rock- it really is a stunning landmark when your actually near it. We also visited Kata Tjuta (aka the Olgas) which are another set of ancient rock formations equally stunning yet far less prasied- and took a long walk through the middle- 17km in one day when the heat is touching 40 degrees is quite an achievement!
I also slept in swags whilst I was there, which is basically a mat outside- great fun and a good way to watch the 1000's of stars at night. Everyone else opted for tents as they were scared of a storm but I stayed out- and batteled againt the rain alone- was great fun though and certinatly an experience!
