Well the blogs are gonna come more frequent over the next few days - as i said, we have free internet here. lucky you! we did siena today, as lu probably said we were goin to - i just found out she did a blog on the sly this morning, no doubt while i was still downing my cake, so weve got the most nutritious part of the day out the way...now to siena. probably one of the most beautiful places in Italy, on a par with verona (in mine and lucys book, anyway). we just arent really feeling the city vibe at the moment, esp. after the heat and pollution of milan, and it was really nice to be in a town again, without our heavy bags. the main square of siena is amazing, it spreads outwards and upwards from a drain like a fan, with a lovely fountain/ pool in the middle at the top, and a sort of palazzo belonging to the Medici family (legends) where it converges at the bottom. its one of a kind. in fact, there isnt one level street in the whole of siena which, yeah, adds to its charm, but on young feet in harsh abercrombie "treads" (mine), its agony. well maybe thats taking it too far, it wasnt that painful, and anyway the scenery took your mind off it. there were loads of thin streets (vicolos) which steeped down sharply away from the main streets (some of which were little more than alleyways themselves), and gave you a wonderful view of the campagna in the distance. being on a budget, we mostly just walked the city, we didnt like the idea of paying to get into a church, esp. at 3 euros each, so we just saw the outside of the duomo, but we did find the sanctuary of saint catherine, which was really nice (and free), and we took a long walk to a church ed saw and liked, which turned out to be the church of santa maria (we think), and while it was not much to look at on the outside, it was really beautiful and ornate on the inside, with an amazing echo (but thats not why we liked it, not the only reason anyway.) Trains both ways were fast, breezy and on time, which is always nice. oh and lucy just told me that the italian ticket guy who woke us up to check our tickets was fit. so, yeah. wow. also, we seem to be seeing quite a few musical films really randomly - dirty dancing in milan(dubbed in italian, hilarious), and moulin rouge just now. and i just got 66cl of birra moretti for 3 euros. so its been a good evening so far. think it might be ending soon tho, cos of all our hard walking, we basically just keep falling asleep. arrivederci tutto x
