Ed's Travels
Hello again.
We are both now in Udaipur which is about 800km north of Mumbai. We left Mumbai on Sunday from the hotel to catch a bus to Udaipur only to find when we arrived at the bus station that the bus had been dlayad for 2 hours. So we sat around for a bit and passed the time and eventually got on the bus at 7:00pm for the 16 hour journay to Udaipur. We had sleeper seats which meant that we were above thje normal seats in effectivley a double bed. It was nice to be able to lie down because it made sleeping much more comfortable, but the problem was that the space was about 3 inches too small so you could not quite stretch out.
Anyway we lay down and procceded to try and pass the time trying to sleeping which was easier said than done considering the noisew of the busses constantly beeping there horns. Then at 7 in the morning we had to change busses as our bus was not going to Udaipur. We we scurried on to another bus this time without airconditioning for the final leg of our trip, or at least that was what we thought. We did not arrive in to Udaipur uyntil 1:30. So we had been travelling for a total of 21 and a half hours door to door!!
It was a nice change reaching Udaipur for the sheer fact that it is tiny compared to Mumbai. The population here is 300,000 so the place seems dead. We got a richshaw to the hotel which dad was very reluctant on but it only cost 60p. The hotel is absolutely stunning. It is set around 2 courtyards and is right on the banks of the lake here. We have great views over the lake and can clearly see the Lake Palace Hotel where you might recognise from the photos (when i can put them up) was where Octop**** was filmed. The hotel also has a roof top restaurant which is meant to be one of the best in town, but again it is dirt cheap.
The afternoon we arrived we just pottered around and did a brief cruise around the lake to get the view looking back over towards the city and the huge Palace. We then wandered back through town where dad spotted a tailors. So we wandered in and looked around and tonight we are both picking up jackets that have been made for us. They were an absolute bargain, 40 pounds for a tailored jacket!!
Today we booked our bus east to Jaiopur where we head tomorrow morning. We then came back into town where we spent a couple of hours exploring the vast City Palace. It really did put into perspective the wealth of the Marharajas.
Anyway i must dash as we are heading back to the hotel for lunch. Tonight we are off to a restaurant on the other side of the lake, which we discovered this morning, which again is very smart but as cheap as you can get.
I will keep trying to upload some photos.
