A quick blog before bed: the Elephants were amazing. The large lake constructed 1,000 years ago by an ancient king of Ceylon is the main source of water and grass for herds of wild elephant, especially now during the dry season. Every day around 300 elephants come to graze and drink in the evening. There are a lot of jeeps but we also headed away from the crowds and saw pelicans, peacocks, eagles, monkeys and a jackel.
The elephants were all sizes from 2 week old babies, 5 year old play fighting to big bull elephants. Very graceful animals, a wonderful sight and fantastic scenery. Gotta go, off to Sigiriya early tomorrow.
