Hey hey! Welcome again to my travel blog! Today is a very exciting day - I finally get to go snorkelling! I have been waiting for this all summer, and recently bought a waterproof camera, which I have wanted since Papua :) Myself and 25-30 other Monash exchange students managed to organise a group trip to Pulau (island) Pangkor, about 3.5 hrs north of Kuala Lumpur (although our bus took forever!) on the West coast of the peninsula. Our plan had been to go to Pulau Perhentian, a top destination on the East coast, but monsoon weather put paid to that. We ended up settling for a closer but still nice Pangkor. Today will also include a jungle trek and some touring around on a scooter :) I've already seen heaps of wildlife and I haven't even seen outside the populated areas.
It feels a little strange that we have been able to do so much already, and classes don't start till Monday. I am looking forward to classes now, and I have met one of my lecturers, and found a couple of people who are in classes with me. On Monday I will also be joining the student union gym, as the vast amounts of amazing food available for a pittance is taking it's toll. I'm also planning on doing regular swimming and running, which will be good.
I'm getting used to being away from friends and family (13 days without a hug - not that I'm counting :P ) as well as making good friendships with the people here (mostly Monash Australia students), but the group here's pretty great, which helps :) We have been doing stuff every day - eating out, going in to the city, going to a theme park, sorting out matters at uni, going out, and celebrating birthdays :)
I'm really settling in well to the culture here. It's similar to Indonesia, but also in many ways not too different from our. It looks like I won't be getting any culture shock or anything, which I'm pretty cool with. Well I have to head out now to make the most of the day, so I will sign off for another week. Expect to see some Malaysia photos up on Facebook early next week. Also I really want to hear from you all, so please write/post/email etc.
Love, Eden
