On to Thailand we went!
After an eight hour eventful flight, complete wuth lightening storms over Malaysia, we finally arrived in Bangkok!! Plenty of free beers and wine were dished out on our Quantas flight (we love Quantas!) and we made a new friend in Air host 'Bonn'...we disembarked armed with our free goodies from first class (courtesy of Bonn-twit twooooo!!) we were chauffered to our hotel by the airport for 2 nights of 5 star luxury in 'The Amaranth' :@)
We decided to stay in a hotel near airport as we were set to fly to Phuket on our 3rd day and fancied a couple of days to pamper ourselves with Massages in hotel spa and lounge by the pool..pure lush!! Didn't want to leave!
So chilled and aches massaged away, we flew to Phuket to stay a few nights in crazy Patong! We were greeted with a nice eggy smell in Patong-not so nice, but glorious sunshine and a nice spot on the beach to soak up the rays! We shopped around and loaded up on Lacoste and Ralph Lauren polos and raybans galore! Few prezzies for the folks at home too! I got a taste for a wine cooler called 'Spy' and Adam got the thirst for Chang-thai beers that 6.4%, needless to say, 2 cans and he was anyones-dangerous in Patong with the Ladyboys about! haha! I tried Pad Thai, a thai dish, for the first time and was hooked! Had it 3nights in a row! lol :@)
We moved on for a night on Kata Beach, further south on the west coast of Phuket and again we took it easy and soaked up the rays (notice a pattern here??)
Next day we decided to get the Ferry to Phi Phi Don, the largest of the two Phi Phi islands. Well, the less said about that ferry ride, the better. Lets just say that i was ghostly white by the time we reached Phi Phi and there were a few full bags of puke carried off that boat...
Off we went to our gorgeous little bungalow set on the hills just on the outskirts of Tonsai Village. We loved that little bungalow and settled in for 5nights on 'The Beach'.. again 4days of lying on the bed and occassionally waded into the Andamen Sea to cool down (even though water is at 28-30degrees, its still very refreshing and aqua clear!) We got hooked on freshly BBq-ed Sweetcorn on a stick and Thai pancakes-my favourite is the Banana and Nutella, Adams is a Nutella man!
We had our first bucket or two of Mai Tai cocktail (worse for wear the next day!) and i tried my first Thai Green Curry-my new fav dinner! Yum yum! I also experience my first Mozzie attack-the buggars bit me 30times one night one my shins so we invested in 95% DEET spray and touch wood, have been safe since-Hooray!
One our last day on Phi Phi we took a full day tour by boat around the 2 islands.. it was great fun and glad we did it! We got to see Monkey Bay with you guessed it, monkeys! We visited Bamboo Island which was a totally unspoilt island to the north of Phi Phi Don with the whitest sand ive seen and the clearest aqua water surrounded it... deserted island heaven! Adam and i didnt want to leave it after snorkelling to shore from the boat-another first for me! Next stop was Mosquito Island, named because of its shape, Thank God!
After that we had lunch on board and headed to Phi Phi Ley, the smaller island of Phi phi..we visited shark point to snorkel and spot reef sharks, Viking cave, Two lagoons; Pi-Le and Loh Saman, both gorgeous coves....next stop was the highlight of our tour; Maya Bay, better known as the secret 'Beach' in the movie of the same title..our ferry dropped achor in the lagoon and we were taken onto the shore by Longboat-always fun! We spent an hour on Maya bay and had a wander about the shore..it was beautiful indeed! Once the hour was up, we were then nearly left on the beach as we saw our big tour boat start to leave! Luckily they realised we were missing and a longboat kindly dropped us to our boat-which we boarded slightly red-faced, or was that sun burn!? hahaha
Next morning leaving Phi phi with a tear in our eyes, we boarded the ferry to Rai Lay which was an hour from Phi Phi and reached by longboat from the ferry..We stay in Rai Lay west for three nights and you guessed it, lay on the beach and by our hotel pool catching some rays and taking dips in the pool..oh the life! Railay is a much quieter, couples and family resort so relaxing after Phi Phi :@) We saw monkeys as we visited Phranang Beach and Caves and they were very entertaining! Wish we had brought some bananas for them!
The following morning, we were up bright and early to get a longboat to shore for the start of our journey to the Gulf of Thailand! Next destination was Ko Pha-ngan, party island! We got the bus to Suratani and caught ferry to Ko Pha-ngan..arrived on the island quite late and got tuk tuk style taxis-love them; would be so handy to have them at home, to our resort. This time we were staying in Blue Hill resort, just on the outskirts of Hat Rin on a hilltop overlooking the sea. We were staying in a villa and were basically in the Jungle! As we were showned to our villa, all that went through my head was Guns and Roses' 'Welcome to the Juuungle!' hahaha we were def surrounded by nature, though Ko Pha-ngan is the most Jungly of the islands and most of its interior is national park! Didnt help that i watched 'Anaconda' on tv one night-every noise i heard then was something wild! hahaha By nightfall we had an array of Animal noises, frogs, crickets, Lizards and wee Geekos (of which there was one in our room on the first night-id rather that in my room that anything else though!! haha) On our last night i even saw a tree/ grass snake! At least thats what i think it was! ha! We dined mostly at Tommys Resort as they did a tasty Fish and Chips and enjoyed our first Vodka Redbull buckets, there were 30 or more stalls selling bukets to choose from! We then were treated to fire shows by very talented (and sweaty men due to closeness of fire to them!) all night! Fab!!
After 4 fun nights in Hat Rin we arrived in Ko Samui this morning where the fun is continuing!!!
