It was a slow start to the day as we weren't planning on doing anything and knew we weren't going to get a good night on the plane, so figured we may as well top up our reserve tank. We watched XMen and then showered and got ready to go and have an early lunch / breakfast, but got distracted by a movie called Defenders of the Galaxy or something along those lines, so ended up only leaving an hour later. It was a good movie.
We weren't particularly impressed that the Swiss Hotel was 5* and charged for wifi over and above the room rates. But it wasn't exactly a small charge, S$28 for 24 hours! Considering we'd been in dodgy backpackers for £7 a night and that included free wifi, it just seemed like an insult to our intelligence.
We refused to pay for it, so went down to the food court of the shopping centre and had a lunch special (soup and a healthy pizza for S$13) and hooked up to the free wifi there. We got back in touch with the planet for an hour and then made our way back to our room to pack - we'd been given a late check out of 3pm, but the time was looming nearer and it was going to be a complicated business being an international flight.
With all of Australia's rules and regulations on anything and everything, I threw my bamboo fan in the bin. We also threw out bits and pieces we knew we weren't going to need any more, like the washing powder we'd bought in Kanchanaburi 4 months earlier - that had been a good buy.
We called down to reception for them to fetch our bags and Edd went and checked out, I met him at the swimming pool where we were going to be spending the rest of the afternoon. There was a hospitality suite right next to the pool that we had been given keys to, as our flights were only at 10.40pm and we had a rather large gap in between.
We had a short swim, as the water was ice cold, and had a doze on the sun loungers in an attempt to soak up the last of the summer rays we'd be seeing for a while. Children were playing in the kiddies pool as it was school holidays and our dozing was interrupted by squealing and parents telling their children not to run next to the pool (their warnings fell on deaf ears. Well, their kids were deaf, everyone else heard about fifty times).
We went to the hospitality suite at around 5pm and called for our bags to be brought up - it was shower time. We'd packed our stuff strategically so we could easily access the bits we'd need to get ready and then packed our bags one last time. I was glad to never have to squeeze my whole life into a 45litre bag again, but it was a bitter sweet thought - our sabbatical was over and reality was on the horizon.
We made our way to the MRT and got the train to the airport, or the first of 2 trains in that direction. We checked our bags in, went through security and made our way to a restaurant that served food we were both keen on and hooked up to their wifi and shared a Sprite. I sat and blogged while Edd read the news and caught up with friends and family.
We left after 2 hours and went for a walk around duty free before making our way to the boarding gate - C13. It was strange to be getting on a plane to a final destination. We were being collected by friends and checking into accommodation for a week before taking up residency in a place we'd signed a 1 year lease on.
We boarded the plane, sitting in bulk head seats and tried to get comfortable, not an easy task to sleep sitting up. We had a second dinner and then I curled up and napped while Edd watched movies. It was only a 6.5 hour flight to Melbourne and we were edging closer to our new lives with every passing minute.
