4th of July maybe Independence Day in the USA a celebration of freedom....but for Edwards/Davis tour we were anything but free. This was a travel day, so we were either stuck in the car, waiting in an airport lounge or trapped in a plane. For the entire day it poured with rain, so it wasn’t even worth stopping anywhere on the trip from Rotorua back to Auckland. We had only arranged a short visit to Milan for 2 nights with 1 full day. We arrived on the Sunday afternoon at 1.30pm. Lucky for us the train wasn't late as we had arranged to see the last supper by Leonardo DaVinci at 3.30pm. This was the only opportunity we had as the convent, now museum was closed on Mondays. The final bit of the trip to Venice was by bus from the town of Villach in Austria just a few kilometres from the Italian border. The bus driver asked to see our passports for ID as we boarded, but when he saw the cover of my passport he said " Oh Australian...doesn't matter". We have just spent 2 nights (1 full day) in Vienna. It wasn't meant to be much of a site seeing visit.... more of a rest day and a means to get better train connections. I'm not sure whether we have just seen too many museums, art galleries and cathedrals, but both Jane and I found Vienna a little boring. Some nice buildings in the middle part of the city, but not much else. I wasn't into Mozart, waltzes, Heidi, snow skiing or those horses from Spain ....Lippizan...
