We left Ko Pagnan and caught a taxi 4x4 to the harbour, passing the usual sights like a monkey, an elephant and a load of men with hugh guns strapped to their backs! We got to the boat but had to weight 2 hours before it left! The journey on the boat was 4 hours so we treated ourselves to the VIP room and watched films all the way - it was really calm, bearly a ripple which makes it the first boat journey i haven't felt a bit icky on!! Hurrah! We then had to wait another hour before the bus left - but i was told by a man ( although he was drunk) that i had lovely big. . . . blue eyes!! i did wonder what he was going to say! The bus journey was 2 1/2 hours and by the time we arrived in Krabi we were tired and irritable. We got a cab to our hotel and as we got out the driver said " oh there's a power cut here - good bye" and left us to wonder into the blackness of our new home! We didn't stay there! Just down the road was another hotel which had power so we checked in there and trekked up 60 steps with everything we owned! We had dinner and went to bed in the hope that tomorrow would be better!
We went for a walk along the river and ended up in a part of town that didn't seem to be very touristy - infact we were the only ones getting funny looks from the locals so we walked right back again! The weather was really nice but there isn't a beach in the Krabi town so we decided to amuse ourselves with a tour of the river. We got a long boat and he took us through the mangroves where we saw a big lizard and a shopping trolly! We stopped at a cave and climbed through it - it was huge and full of bats ( and unfortunately for me - mozzies!! more itchy bites, yeah!) We then went to a fish farm and saw loads of different fish. The guide showed us a blow fish , it looks like a cube, with proper 90 degree angles and a short little spout for a mouth which he spat out of! Also saw a puffer fish! They are reallt weird! Its so cute when its little and then it blows up and it just can't control itself! When it went back in the water it shot round in circles trying to shrink back down! Silly fish! In the evening we went to an italian ( theres only so much thai food my stomach can handle!) They were playing live music and ed and I have been starved of decent tunes - we were singing along like mad people while eveyone else were trying to enjoy a quiet meal! The band loved us though!!
next day we took a bus to Au Nang and chilled out on the beach all day! At one point a storm came in so we headed for a massage and i had my nails done - its tough you know, coping with the unpredictable weather!!
On saturday we flew back to Bangkok and went to stay with my mums friend Briony. On sunday she took us to a market - and when i say market i mean lots of stalls selling stuff you didn't even know existed all jammed in together but so many that you'll never see the same one twice, we got lost! We wondered around for 2 hours through the stalls and still only saw a quarter of it! Crazy!! But fun shopping!
On Monday we went into the school briony and Tim work in. It was alot bigger than i thought when we were shown around. In the afternoon we went in on a lesson with year 1 and helpped them do drawings - we sat with two very giggly little girls, one thai, one corean. They were very cheeky. We also went in on a music lesson but that was so manic by the time it was over we were ready to leave so we went to the shopping mall near the school and had a look around before going back to the apartment for a swim.
Today we have made our way back into the centre of bangkok to do some more shopping! Its so cheap here its a crime not to buy anything . . . .or in my case everything!! Getting here was a trek though. we got on a boat that was nearly overflowing, made our way down the river which was nearly black with dirt and rubbish, not to mention the dead cat and dog floating past! What was worse was that you got splashed in the face as you went - if i'm not ill after that it will be a bloody miracle! We then got on a bus not really knowing where to get off ( the eticate here is that if you want to get on the bus you have to throw yourself in front of it first! )Â We got off and was latched onto by a stranger trying to take us on another boat ride but all we wanted was the river ferry which we eventually found - we had to wait there for half an hour by something that was living but clearly had died near by! Ummmm!! I'm looking forward to the sweet smell of cow sh*t at least you know what it is!
We fly back home tonight so this is nearly the end . . . .! I'll let you know if we land safely and hopefully uneventfully!! x x x
