I really haven't written anything for at least two weeks. Perhaps that's because I've been sick and tired, or perhaps it's because Scott told me I've been posting too many photos and videos on facebook! Since I last wrote, I've partied... a lot. And that's about it. And then I got sick, from too much partying. Actually, we all got sick.
Last time I wrote, I was going to a reception at the city hall, and then to Guido's frat party. Both were good, although staying out drinking until 6 am was a very bad idea, considering I had to go to the introduction camp the next day.
On friday of that weekend, 90 exchange students and then 30 or so mentors all went to an Introduction Camp on a farm about 10 km outside of Tilburg. We arrived there in the pouring rain, after walking for a good half hour. Luckily, we had a few drinks and quickly warmed up! ;)
The weekend was really fun, lots of games, and of course lots of drinking. On Friday night we did Beer Cantus - essentially singing horribly as a gigantic group to a variety of songs, and then downing a beer at the end of each song. Needless to say, it was pretty fun. (I've posted videos of a couple of the songs on facebook, so check them out if you'd like).
Saturday was not the greatest day for me. The majority of the camp had caught a cold, and mine was bad enough to force me to go to bed a couple times during the afternoon. We did play some good games though, and we took a trip to a local brewery, which was nice.
Sunday was the highlight of the weekend - the beer races. I'm not going to get into all the details, but you can check out my facebook videos if you'd like to get a good idea of what they were all about. My team won though!!! (No thanks to me, though - I'm not the fastest chugger by any means!)
Monday I began classes. I only had three classes that week though - as language classes didn't start until the following week (last week). My classes are good, it's very strange to only have each class one time per week though. (But they make up for that by assigning numerous giant PDF's to read each week). I only have classes on Mondays and Thursdays each week, which is also unusual. (But I use the time in between to recover from Tuesday night mentor dinners/the LG!)
Tuesday of that week was the first mentor dinner and the "Welcome to Holland Party". Anyone who has looked at my facebook photos will have seen my orange outfit, little hat, and orange hair. The orange hair was a bad idea, as it took 8 shampoos and four days before I could get all the colour out!
On thursday I had class until 9:30 PM, and then went straight to an ESN pub crawl, that had started an hour earlier. It was definitely another crazy night, and I paid for it the next day.... :P
Last weekend I hung out with Dyon (one of the ESN board members) on Friday. Saturday night a bunch of us exchange girls had a ladies night - making (frozen) pizza, and then a few of us went out to Cafe Philip afterwards. (Yet another very late night - bad idea, considering I was still reaaaaally sick).
Tuesday I hung out with Guido during the day, and then went to the second mentor dinner and LG party in the evening. We also had an after-party at the bar next to the LG, which went on until 6 am. (Although I left at 5). It was snowing that day, and it was really miserable trying to bike at night while blinded by flurries...
Wednesday we went skating at a local indoor rink, which was fun... although I really, really suck at skating for being a Canadian! And the skates sucked and I have a disgusting, raw, and possibly infected blister on my foot now.. so gross.
Thursday I had a late class again, and then went to a party at the Verbs residence with about 50 or so other exchangees. We were also joined by Aron, a Dutch guy from Zwolle in my Philosophy of Law class who missed the last train that evening while he was talking to me, and was forced to stay over night in Tilburg. Luckily, he was able to stay at Dyon's place, but had to get up at 6 am or so to catch the first train back to Zwolle, in order to make it to work on time.
This weekend has been really relaxed for me... I thought it would be a good idea to catch up on sleep and get over my cold. So I haven't done much, although Natasha and I have gone shopping a couple times. We have another theme party this Tuesday - movie characters... so I had to buy a costume for that. Stay tuned for more on that....
