Started this morning in Alleppey, the farming town in the Keralan backwaters, in a homestay on a hard local bed, in the heat and humidity with the fan whirring away loudly powered by the generator as there was a morning power cut.
After a local breakfast, we headed away by boats down the canals. Beautiful views with an interesting background that we had learned about the previous evening, with our local farmer host Thomas. Man made canals, with a system of pumps, are used to irrigate the rice paddies with a link back to the ocean to yearly flood the salt water back through, to disinfect the fields and provide much needed salt for the coconut trees. Lots of photos taken.
Back to Kochi, shedding group members as we went, for a leisurely lunch and wander through the town. I'm going to miss our little group more than I thought I would. We bonded well over our two weeks. No Bani to plan my days and direct the trip from now.
Heading to the airport now to fly to Bali with a brief stopover in Singapore. Dann is meeting me at the airport and onto the next phase of the trip...
