Hello all
Well we got up early on Tuesday morning (Yesterday) and caught a train to Edinburgh. A lovely 4 hour train ride across the country side of London and Scotland....
We arrived in Edinburgh to fairly brisk weather, but battled through the cold and made our first visit tothe Edinburgh Castle. After this the ladies went shopping while the men went to the Scotch Whisky Experience. This was fun, learning how scotch whisky is made, the flavours used in different regions and finally tasting a few drops from the various distilleries. We then had a 3-course dinner, where we sampled a few more whiskeys from the regions of Scotland.
The next day (today) we organised a private tour bus that took us to various parts of Scotlands country side. We visited some old castles, Lochs (or Lakes), and finally the Dewars Whisky Distillery. It was here were we tasted a few more wee drams of Whisky, one of which was a 29 year single malt direct from the cast. WOW - that was yummy. Unfortunately though I was unable to convert Jacky into a scotch whisky drinker - guess there is just more for me now!!
Some interesting facts:
1. Scotch Whisky is only whisky that has been made and stored in casks within one of the Scotish regions. So Scotch is basically the drink of the Scotish people
2. Single Malt Scotch Whisky basically means that the whisky has been made by the one distillery
3. Blended Scotch Whisky is whisky that has been blended from various distillery. You need to be a master blender to be able to successfully blend Scotch whisky.
Have a great day, one more day in London and then we are off to Rome (Jacky and D) and Madrid (Hayden and Tania)
