hi everyone , we are back near puerto mont again, this time a little north on lake llangquihue, in a cabana - with a lake view! very nice. i am looking down on my jeans, and there is a brown stain of old blood - its blood of a brown trout we caught today in a lake just a little north of here, petrohue - the lake is surrounded by two volcanoes, and a range of snow capped mountains that border onto Argentina - its a magaic place as you will see from photos when i download them. we caught two fish today, gave one of them away to the car park man at the lake. We also went and saw some waterfalls, very spectacular, - and did some horse-riding, nothing very adventurous, but still very relaxing, and with the view of a skiing volcano (you can ski on it - we might visit that tomorrow) and another range of mountains behind the lake....we also rode thru a bit of bush, bit like nz, beech and podacarp.
before we got here, we had just spent three days in Chiloe, the island south of puerto monte. it was covered in gorse, and bush - but we did get a nice house to stay in, due to stu's perservance...he's become the chief finder of accommodation! we are getting good at bargaining, even if the owners can't speak a word of english! Stu is playing his bagpipes out here, andthe dog is howling along! its quite funny. Chiloe wasn't as exotic as we had hoped. but we did do some fishing, tim caught a small rainbow trout - we threw that back. we went for a walk up to a national park, but with no signs to guide us, and no one around to talk to, we didn't get too far into the bush. the roads are shocking and without a four wheel drive you have to walk. we walked quite a way, but still couldn't find this lake that was on the map! no one about - we had the whole place to ourselves.
We spent another day driving over to another island off Chiloe and had a fish, but no luck. again spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range in the distance and volcanoes further sout h of here, including one that erupted before we came here and was still smoking away. despite the lack of info on the place, we enjoyed our stay because we were up on a hill overlooking a small village and lake hullihue, nr chonchil.
ok, thats all for now. internet has been sporadic here - i think pictures will tell a thousand words, so will put those on the sight. we will stay in this spot (picture above , not the volcano we can see here, but like it) for another four days. the guy that owns it is a chilean of german descent - he is a character, and does very good charades! for us to understand...he speaks very little english. just thought i would mention to, that the cities in chile, are dumps! There is no pride in your house and maintenance is something unheard of - although in saying that, the cabanas here are simple, but well looked after. not the norm!
