Having had our blues adventure the night before, we got up nice and early and caught the train to the airport where we picked up our next rental. Because we have this car for just over a week, I reserved a mini-van so it would be comfortable but when we got there they did the whole up sell thing and we fell for it. So now we are cursing in 2014 Ford Explorer with sunroof, heated seats and all the trimmings. I should mention that American roads are great to drive on. They are well looked after (except Chicago) and the drivers are very accommodating. The USA has the rule of right turn on red and the police are pretty relaxed. It seems like highway patrol are looking for more than just people speeding.
We had a full 8hrs of driving to Memphis but we made a detour for lunch. About half way between Memphis and Chicago is an Amish community, which is open to the public. So we dropped in to a place called Yoda's Kitchen, which is all authentic Amish food, and apparently I was too inappropriate. My argument was that it was too different for me and that's how I responded. I mean, where is the line between traditional and compromise. I saw one guy on his horse and carriage and another guy using a ride on mower. Regardless of the differences, the Amish make an amazing fried chicken and I would fully recommend it.
