One year with no football! How will they survive?
We got to Wellington very late on Monday night, it was pouring with rain and the coldest weather we have experienced since that dreadful winter we had back in England last November - February.
We decided to stay in Base Backpackers because it was highly recommended by our B.U.G guide book. It was a fantastic hostel, had a TV in the room and the hugest bed we have ever slept in! The view was fantastic, we could see the harbour and the surrounding hills. And cleaner than our houses at home-this aint an insult mum it just was well well clean!! We went downstairs to the bar to catch the last 20 minutes of happy hour, Cess got a glass of red wine and Dubs got a beer and the total bill came to $6 (two quid), the whole atmosphere was like your typical British University bar, however, we could tell that distinct groups had formed already, so we went back to our room for an early night as we had been travelling all day!
One highlight of the evening was discovering this amazing Kiwi hip hop collective called Scribe with their hit single "Not Many," Henry and Billy we strongly reccommend you download this on limewire! they all had QUALITY tattoos!
On Tuesday, we decided to go to the Te Papa Museum in the Wellington CBD. This is the New Zealand national museum, four stories of stuff we had actually seen before in Rotorua and Auckland, the only thing that made it different was that it had various interesting documentaries and lots of virtual things that were generally aimed at kids such as a virtual bungee jump and virtual sheep shearing.
After the Te Papa Museum, we went to the National Tattoo Museum, which was very interesting and worth the $5 entry. Unfortunately we could not take any pictures because the museum mostly consisted of pictures, so if we had copies of what we saw none of you would consider going there if you were to come to Wellington, it is definitely worth going to though. The museum's focal point is the history of the "Moko" tattoo, which is the maori tattoos on the face and body.
Dubs dragged acold cess to the cable cars that go to the botanical gardens at the top of wellington (up a steep hill). it was actually well good, but very chilly and cloudy, defo worth the 60p return ticekt!
After it was nandos time again and we got a free bottle of wine cos the man serving us thought we bought one, needless to say we didnt tell him otherwise- happy days!
WE liked wellington a lot, shame bout the weather, but as the sweeds say theres no bad weather jus bad clothes- we are desperatley missing our warm clothes!!!!!
