Today was a very busy one.Started with a good breakfast and took a cab to the Dubai Frame. This is a huge picture frame where you can see old Dubai one side and new Dubai the other. It was an amazing place with a history of Dubai before you went up one leg of the frame. The top bit had a glass floor which was a bit unnerving, but the views were stunning of both old and new. Fortunately the sandstorm was gone, there was a cool wind but visibility was great. When we descended via the opposite leg of the frame ther was a brilliant video - vision of the future. The screen was a U shape and about 12ft high and made you feel a bit giddy watching it but it was great.
We then took a taxi to a place called Al Seef where along the Creek development had taken place, starting with new and then a fake old Souk but done very well. We saw the Sheiks yacht which was absolutely beautiful in polished wood (unmarked by the recent sandstorm, everything else was covered in sand)
We visited the Textile Spice and Gold Souks where Catherine bought a handbag for a friend (very interesting dealings there) between the souks we had to cross the river on a funny little ferry boat but there were plenty of them and it was bustling all around. It was the normal hassle in the Souks but a laugh. At one point we were addressed as “ hey Sakiria, Tom Cruise, Mama” not to impressed with my title!
Took the metro to the Dubai Mall where we saw the Fountain Show and the aquarium and had a cup of tea. By now we were beginning to fade so we took the metro back to Catherine’s neck of the woods and she took us to a Belgian Bar where we drank Leffe and had a great meal - all with discounts from some miracle app Catherine had on her phone.
By the time we got back to her apartment we had walked 13.2 km or 21,116 steps.
So that’s tomorrow’s steps done.
A great but very tiring day.
