Drew & Emi's Life Adventure
Hey All,
We are leaving Zanzibar (and Tanzania) today - Thanks to the many recommendations, we are headed to Cape Town, South Africa instead of Johannesburg. We had a wonderful, relaxing time in Zanzibar. We spent a few days in Stone Town, a cool mixture of African, Arabic and Indian cultures. Many little shops in VERY narrow streets with exotic wood-carved doors that represent wealth and likely cost more than the rest of the building. We ate lots of fresh fish (octopus, calamari, king fish, etc) at the local water-side market for about $3-4 each. We spoke to many locals - it seems Swahili is similar to Japanese (spoken language) so Emi was surprised how much the locals could speak Japanese and then she helped them along with a few more lessons.
We then went to relax in Jambiani on the east coast of Zanzibar. Just picture a straw bungalow on stilts at the edge of an otherwise deserted beach, with just enough facilities to be quite comfortable - the kind of place that a few weeks could slip by without notice. Oh yeah, and there was the hammock for reading/napping.....very nice. We are well rested!!
