A peak outside the tent confirmed how cold it had been the night before. Frost covered the ground and a few icicles could be seen hanging from the tents. But the morning cuppa delivered to the tent helped things get underway. Soon after we got goingy and we visited a local family to see how they live. A small one room stone and wood hut, thatched roof, with no power or running water. But apparently they live that way by choice. It's a tradition. Todays walk is relatively easy. About 5 hours, downhill and following a river along the valley floor. Some beautiful flora along the way. Particularly many species of orchids. We got to our destination about 12.30 and then had a 40 minute bus ride into Ollantaytambo where we would be staying for the night. A hotel with hot showers and real beds! Oh the luxury of it all. After we cleaned up Graham, who I was rooming with, found a bar just up the street. That beer sure tasted good and was a great way to celebrate what had been a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable 3 days of walking. Later in the afternoon we toured the Inca ruins that sit on the hillsides overlooking the town. The town itself was an important part of the Inca empire and even today retains the same street layout that it did when the Incas ruled this part of the world. Dinner and an early night brought the day to a close
