Ashgabat to Wild Camp
Feeling better today I seem to have got over the bug bad stomach but that's all. Ride out the wild camp in the Karicom desert, I like deserts nice dry heat - apparently only a couple of types of scorpion and spider live around here we've been told to check under the tent to make sure some one else is not in residence first.
Had our first serious off today Kevin fell asleep - he'd been ill last night and not had enough sleep - I felt guilty cos just before the accident he'd been telling me over the radio how tired he was. We found him off the road in the sand picking the bike up he'd hit his head and smashed the screen and the back rack on the bike. It looks like the bike flipped when he hit a ditch in the sand talk about lucky he just missed a cement post, the medic reckons he wasn't badly injured cos he was still asleep when he hit the sand. Any way we've patched the bike up and it's all ride able and he managed to carry on with me chatting to him on the radio every few minutes. Hopefully that's his statistical accident over with. Final part of the day we went to visit the Koricom fire pit. I though it was going to be a boring hole in the desert with a fire in it, turned out not it was fascinating take a look at the video. Apparently it's a naturally occurring hole that has breached a source of methane gas legend has it that the gas was poisoning the local camels sheep etc so one day one of the local farmers set fire to it and it's been burning ever since. Definitely worth a visit
