Since my last blog all our plans have taken shape. A Polish man from Canada called Jan is going to buy Double Helix at the end of this month. He came for a viewing and sea trial and we had over 30 knots of wind for the first time in a very long time! We started out with one reef and 20 knots of wind, and then put in the second and third reefs as the wind built, eventually I said 'enough is enough - we're dropping the mainsail, sea trial or no sea trial'!
However Jan must have seen enough as with a final haggle we agreed the new price (Jan is getting a bargain we think) and signed the paperwork.
We left Road Town the next day and headed to our old favourite the Bitter End on Virgin Gorda, for a few days of beach relaxation. Our next challenge is to organise shipping for a few boxes so that we don't have to leave behind all our possessions, The girls are getting very good a playing keep of chuck, and Anna is even able to let some things go now.
Last night we had a Dutch man from another kiddy boat round for a drink. He came empty handed and left with a guitar, 2 puzzles, wooden building blocks and ingredients and a recipie for playdough, as well as a few ziplock bags of the last of my Morrocan spices!
We spent another couple of days with John and Sue from Exuma in the north of Virgin Gorda, and we all went out to the Jumbies beach party at Leverick bay. This involved a fantastic buffet (eat as much as you can), a fairly bad band who murdered Bob Marley songs, and some stilt dancers (who were not very good, but Ellen loved). Anna was tired and after being a big grumpy fell asleep on my lap for the evening which prevented me from eating quite as much as John.
Leverick bay also has a swimming pool so we ended up staying there for a few days - Ellen and Anna played mermaids in it for hours at a time, leaving me and John to relax and drink the very expensive Perrier by the pool.
I noticed this morning that Ellen and Anna both have green hair - I think there must have been plenty of chlorine in the pool!
We have been doing a bitmore school than before at the moment, Ellen has been doing maths, reading, writing, craft and painting and her log book. She is not always keen, but is managing well, Anna can't get enough school work at the moment and is very good at dot to dots up to 100.
As I write this the rain is coming down monsoon style - it is deafening! Today has been very stormy with the wind coming out of the West instead of the East (very odd for round here), causing us to leave our lovely anchorage at 'the dogs' to head for shelter. We are anchored off Marina Cay (a very small island with a resort on. There are lots of bouys with lots and lots of charter boats on them, all up at the bar listening to an awful singer - they will get very very very wet on their dingy rides back!!!!)
I will go now and watch the rain - sounds boring but its not!!!
