Hi everyoneWe are in Sicily! We left Carloforte on Tuesday evening, after staying till the fair had opened (it was Annas birthday after all) and the girls had trampolined and bumpercarred. The winds were a bit stronger than forecast and we sailed pretty much all the way, arriving on Thursday morning at about 4 am. We broke our top speed for the boat so far, at 16.9 knots - after that we thought it prudent to put a reef in, which helped Audrey the autohelm to cope a bit better, although even with one reef in we were surfing down waves at 13 - 14 knots. We sailed goose winged most of the way as the wind was right behind us, and if I hadn't felt sick and tired and a bit anxious occasionally I think I would have loved it! Ellen and Anna took it all in their stride - had a look around at the waves, Anna spent some time looking for a whale called Arthur, and they both watched lots of DVDs. There were no worrying close calls with big ships, and the stars were incredible - very very clear indeed. The only breakage this time was one of the blades of the wind generator prop, which was hit by a rope while reefing. We had another lot of dolphins join us at about 1am on Thursday morning (John and I both happened to be up as it was time to change watch) and they played by our bows for about 15 minutes, jumping and swooshing in and out of the hulls, and leaving phosfourescent glow in the dark trails behind them - we could easily hear them chattering to each other, and we got splashed in the face as they blew out of their blow holes!! Dolphins have a way of cheering me up!We anchored with incredible skill in the dark in a bay at capo san vito, and in the morning woke to see a spectacular beach with a rock / cliff jutting out of nowhere at one end of it.We spent the afternoon on the beach (after taking apart the fuel pump to find out why it was fuseing, and breaking it in the process) which was lovely, and felt much more human this morning after having some sleep. We are currently anchored in Baia di Mondello, an easy mornings motoring, from where we are planning to do a long day tomorrow to Volcano (one of the Aeolian Islands) where we will catch up with Marina and Louanna (and their parents) and see all the volcanic mud and things…!
