We made it to Greece - hooray! After spending 5 days in Syracuse (Sicily) which we really enjoyed, we set off at 6am, heading to Paxos (just south of Corfu). We were not expecting much wind and we were right! We sailed for about 4 hours in total for the crossing which lasted about 43 hours, however the sails did increase our motoring speed most of the time too. We had a few sightings of dolphins - two leaping right out of the water, but none of them came to play. The sea was so flat that I even did chores while at sea - not something I really do usually! Our brand new 12 volt car dvd player (bought from supermarket in Italy) decided to just stop working - very annoying! So the girls are back to watching snow white in Italian on our small old rubbish dvd player again.
We arrived in Paxos at about 2am (we always try to work out our leaving time so that we arrive in the light, and always get it wrong!) and managed to find the bay, and the other 1000 yachts anchored in it! We found a space fairly easily - right in the entrance to the bay, and fell asleep.
I will just mention quickly that it is really really really really really hot at the moment. Even at night, it is stiflingly hot.
Just as well then that the sea is clear and jellyfish free. The bay here - Lakka - is beautiful (if a bit full of yachts). The beaches are stony so we do not have sand in everything, and have olive trees to provide shade - and tavernas to provide greek lunches (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm). Ellen and Anna are loving the swimming, and coping with the heat well. They are also asking what the Greek words for things are a lot - my capacity for new languages is running low I have to say! So far we can say 'thankyou' and 'no peppers'
