Ok, major neglect!! I'm just going to try and fit all of the rest of Perth into one mega-blog!
(22 December)
Today I went to Rottnest island with Hollie, Mel and Silvio, which was really good! Mel's auntie had got us a discount on boat tickets which was awesome cos they are mega-expensive - $80 round trip! It is about 45 minutes on the boat from the harbour in Perth. We had decided not to hire bikes to get around the island because they thought there was a free bus that went around it...but when we got there we found out that there wasn't haha! Bit of a fail, we probably should have got bikes, but oh well! We went for a walk across the island to see the Quokkas - wee cute animals that live there - and then headed towards a beach for snorkelling! On the way we found a shop and stopped for lunch. As we were trying to figure out which beach to go to, an australian guy stopped and pointed us in the direction of a really gorgeous secluded beach which wasn't too windy! It was really really nice, but it was a little bit shallow for snorkelling and Silvio tried it but didn't seem hugely impressed so I didn't end up bothering haha. It was nice to just sit and chill out on the beach though! We headed back to catch the last ferry home at like 4pm, and then Silvio and I caught the train back into town (after a minor problem figuring out how to get a ticket haha).
That night I had planned to meet Hollie etc for a night out in Claremont. I got ready while chatting to Kerri, waiting for Hollie to tell me what time etc, and convinced Kerri to come too which was really good! Finally heard from Hollie and we headed to meet them at a club called Clubba, but the queue was massive, we couldn't see any of them, and was getting no reply from Hollie's phone! We gave up after about half an hour and went to a pub round the corner for a few, then went back to try the club again! It was mad - to get in they scan your passport and take a fingerprint scan!! So weird!! Once we got in there we ended up finding Mel, but Hollie had already gone home with Mel's cousin so that was a bit of a fail! Glad I had Kerri with me! We had a good enough night anyway though.

Don't think I did too much today, just chilled out, kept looking for jobs etc. Meadhbh's parents and sister arrived and Meadhbh and Trudy went down to stay with them at their house they had rented in Cottesloe by the sea. I stayed with Kerri because she had work in the morning so had to stay an extra night at home.

Christmas eve!! Mad!
We went up to Cottesloe today to start our aussie christmas! Meadhbh's dad Charlie came and picked us up from the house and brought us there which was class! The house was amazing, really big and nice and with a pool and everything! I even had my own room which was just amazing, especially as I had been expecting to have to sleep on a sofa or the floor of the girls' room! The Caldwells were really nice, and we chilled out by the pool most of the day and then had an amazing BBQ for dinner! We tried to watch Elf before bed but all fell asleep halfway through so went up to bed.

Christmas!!!
Woke up really early this morning then went back to sleep for a bit, to be woken by a very excited Kerri at 8 haha. I wasn't overly excited because I was really sure I didn't have any presents as I hadn't given my mum an address to send anything to or anything, but when I got downstairs there was a stocking made up for me by Kathy, Meadhbh's mum! It was amazing, such a surprise! Had a few wee bits in it, including a christmas card from my family and a terry's orange from my mum - we usually always get them in our stockings at home! Still don't know how she got it to the Caldwells but I was really happy! We had bucks fizz with breakfast and it was actually really nice. The girls all had small mountains of presents haha, so was glad I had a few wee bits as well! After breakfast we went straight down to the beach with our santa hats etc, it was class! Pretty busy like, it's actually just standard for the australians haha! It was really good - could get used to a hot christmas quite easily I think!
After the beach we went back to chill by the pool, and Charlie cooked a proper christmas dinner - two turkeys, a big ham, potatoes and veg and all! It was seriously awesome haha, but I ate a stupid amount. Afterwards we chilled out and watched a movie...I think it was My Best Friend's Wedding on TV - they don't really seem to play christmassy things on tv at christmas lol, it's very strange! Serious lack of decorations and christmas music and things in the shops as well...
Didn't get to skype my family which was a little disappointing because of time differences etc, but oh well! The internet in the house wasn't really great either so I don't know if it even would have worked!
(26 December - 2 January)
We basically chilled out majorly for the week after christmas down in Cottesloe, it was really good! Lots of sunbathing at the beach and pool, but it was so hot I couldn't even lie out for too long most days! Ate a stupid amount, so much food, the christmas dinner leftovers lasted for ages as well! The Caldwells took us out for dinner one night which was awesome, and had BBQs most other nights! We were so well looked after! Trudy, Kerri and I went to the boys house for a BBQ one night which was good craic. Had a night chilling at the beach with fish and chips for dinner, which was pretty cool. On the 29th we went for a night out in Subiaco to a bar called Llama Bar which was good. Generally just a lot of chilling out all round though!
On New Year's Eve we went on a wine tasting tour of Swan Valley where there is loads of vineyards which is pretty awesome, although I was pretty sick of wine by the end of it haha - we tried about 25/26 different types! We also had chocolate, nougat, and cheeses at different places, and a huge lunch of like cold meats, salad and cheeses which was awesome! And then some potato wedges and pizza with a cider at a brewery to finish - had a really good day! We went home and had a nap afterwards then got up for the new year. We had a chinese for dinner which was immense, and then headed down to the beach for midnight. It was really nice, had some champagne and did our own countdown. It wasn't as busy as we expected and there wasn't any fireworks or anything which was a bit of a disappointment but it was still really nice! There were a few people skinny dipping and Kerri and Trudy went in for a swim as well, but it was seriously cold in the water haha.
The Caldwells left on the 2nd January and we all headed back to the girls' house in South Perth.
(3 January - 15 January)
On the 3rd I went in to check out a job as an ironing lady at a laundry place in East Perth. It's run by a swiss french family and they were really nice - they even took me on for just 2 weeks as I had already booked my flight out to Cairns on the 15th! I was on minimum wage but that is still $15 an hour, so I made a fair amount over the two weeks! It was quite hard ironing in the heat but not a bad job overall - had a few perks like champagne etc when the family got their citizenship for australia on my second-last day! It was really good to get me out of the house and actually doing things while the girls were working as well.
Kerri's boyfriend Gareth got home on Thursday or Friday of this week so I got to meet him and he is really nice! On the 10th we had a BBQ on the esplanade down by the river which was really nice - we had planned a beach day but the weather hadn't looked great when we woke up. Afterwards we all went out to a club in town called Capital I think, which was really good! They played a lot of dubstep which was awesome - I find it quite weird though, they seem to play dubstep everywhere here haha, unless we are just inwittingly going to dubstep clubs. Don't know how into it everyone else was but I loved the music! We went home earlyish because I was going on a tour to the Pinnacles the next morning and had to get up at like 6:30!
On the 11th I went on a tour to the Pinnacles which was pretty cool. We went to an animal sanctuary and saw koalas and kangaroos and a wombat, which was awesome! Then headed further up the coast to a place where they sort and sell lobsters which was a bit random haha, and had lunch - it was really nice, just sandwiches and fruit etc but it was really good! Then we headed up to the Pinnacles which is like loads of rocks in the desert and looks really cool! After that we were on to to some sandboarding - it wasn't quite as exciting as I thought as it was sitting down, not standing, but it was still good fun! The dunes were amazing, I've never seen anything like them, they were huge and so white!! Actually almost looked like snow!
Was working again the next week quite a lot, watched a lot of Greys Anatomy with the girls after work haha, and sorted myself out for getting going again - actually got my iPod sorted finally, which I didn't manage to do for leaving for Asia haha, so that's awesome!
On Saturday we went to a BBQ at Gareth's house. It was really good, nice food and good craic. We had thought about going out afterwards but I was so tired and the girls weren't going back so I just headed home with them for the hottest nights sleep ever!! Seriously getting mega hot down here lol, I'm a bit worried for Cairns!
And today is the 15th! I'm just getting myself sorted to leave, trying to back up photos etc, catch up on this blog and hopefully get in a bit of sun later before I go! My flight is at 10pm tonight to will probably have to sleep in the airport for a few hours when I arrive as I get in at like 4am...minus craic! But oh well! Can't believe that's Perth over! Excited to get going again though, the East Coast should be pretty good - I'll try really hard to keep up with the blog a lot better!
