Woke up this morning for the last time on Fraser Island...felt a little bit like death! The drink was definitely catching up with me this morning. We packed up camp and got into the cars to head to Lake Wabby. After about an hour we parked on the beach and got ready for a trek through the jungle to get there! Gas, one of the leaders, took one look at me and gave me some painkillers haha, bless him!
The trek through the jungle was very hard! It was seriously hot, and took a good 45 mins to an hour to get through. Sian and I quickly fell behind everyone else, taking it at our own pace. We finally came out of jungle to a huge area of sand dunes which was gorgeous, really cool! Still a bit of a trek down them to the lake though. The lake was very different to the others we had seen, it wasn't fresh water but was still really nice. There was loads of fish in it! I was a little bit freaked out but dealt with it pretty well haha. A group of us swam out to the middle and chilled out there for a bit, then went back to the shallow bit when we got too tired! It was good craic, huge big sand dunes that I rolled down aswell haha, which was really fun!
After an hour or so we trekked back up the huge dune and through the forest to get back to the cars...there were several points I actually didn't think we would make it, it was so long and so hot!! We got there in the end though, and were back in the cars to head for lunch.
We went back to the palce where we had had lunch the first day, and I didn't even attempt to see if there was any of our group food left - really could not be bothered picking at leftover lettuce sandwiches and attempting to talk to the very rude swedish...
I had a look in the shops, having resigned myself to buying some food! I treated myself to a stupidly expensive cider, but it was very worth it, then went to the hot food shop with my last $5 where I stood pathetically trying to decide between chips and a sausage roll as I could only get one with my money! After a couple of minutes the guy behind the counter asked what I wanted, and I told him I couldn't decide and he gave me a sausage roll and 2 bags of chips for the price of just the sausage roll!! Absolutely amazing, haha, totally made my day. So I gave one of the bags to Mick and Gas, our leaders, as they had been so nice for the last couple of days, and offered the chips around everyone. It was Marianne's - one of the dutch girls - birthday today, and her friend had brought her a wee hat thing as a present which was really cute, and Mick went and bought her a huge piece of chocolate cake and we all sang to her, it was so cool! Definitely an awesome way to spend your birthday.
After lunch we were finished, and we all sadly piled back into the cars and headed back for the ferry. On the way we stopped and saw little shellfish things that you can find buried in the sand, and when you put them down and the water washes over them they have big tongue things that come out and dig them back down into the sand! Very cool. By the time we were headed back to shore everyone was pretty shattered and half dead looking haha.
We got back to Rainbow Beach and refueled the cars, then brought them back and cleared out the cars/washed dishes etc. Was so happy to be away from my group! But majorly sad that Fraser was over!
We eventually made it back to the hostel where we had to check in again. I ended up in a room with the german guy from my group who by this stage I actually couldn't stand so I wasn't very impressed. Just stayed out of the room as much as possible though. Spent a good couple of hours showering (actually getting clean!) and washing all our clothes haha.
Each group had got a voucher for 2 jugs of beer at the bar (jugs here are really small - just two pints!) which the swedish had taken, and at one point I walked past them all sitting having the free beer at the bar... They invited me to sit down and have a drink, then went back to all talking swedish...with me there as the only non swedish speaker. Very, very awkward. So glad to get away from all of them!
Later on had some food and went to the bar at the hostel to meet everyone! Had a few drinks, there was live music on which was cool, although it was a bit loud to talk. Ryan and Luke tried to teach us a really rubbish drinking game with coins where you had to guess how many coins people were holding or something...it wasn't really a drinking game as it didn't involve drinking haha. After a bit we all headed down to the beach with the last of the goon and chilled out for a bit there, then headed back to the hostel. Skyped for a bit which was awesome and then went to bed!
