This morning I was raring to go for the surf lesson at 10, and meeting Christina, Julia and Gwen to do it! It was really good, amazing to get surfing again, but the instructors were a little bit annoying - over enthusiastic, very australian, and very bossy haha. I was a bit like, ok I could do with a break in between waves every so often to catch my breath and they were just shouting "Go go go!!" all the time...Can't really complain though, got a good few hours of surfing and it was pretty cheap!
After the surf lesson we went back to the girls' hostel (think it was called Beachside Backpackers). It was pretty cool because they got free bread all the time (such a big deal haha!) and free wifi. It was a bit of a walk out of town though. We stayed there for a bit, chatting/eating bread/using the internet, then Christina, Julia and I headed down to the beach while Gwen went to do Scooteroo. Scooteroo is basically where everyone gets on these scooters made to look like harley motorbikes and puts their leathers on and stuff...it didn't hugely appeal to me, so I didn't bother spending the money on it because it was quite expensive - I'd rather have 3 extra surf lessons!
The beach was really good fun, lovely weather and I basically sat there quizzing Julia on german the whole time - the start of my slight obsession with learning german! She was a really good teacher and taught me loads of stuff, I found that the more I spoke it it was definitely coming back! After a few hours we went back to our hostels and I had a shower etc.
When I was just out of the shower we got some new people coming into the room, who had just arrived from Rainbow Beach - my next stop! They were really nice, and had stayed at the hostel I was staying in (Dingos)...but totally freaked me out!
Basically, you tend to go to Rainbow Beach as a base to go to Fraser Island so you go to the island and leave your main rucksack in the luggage storage in your hostel for a few days then come back to it. This group had gone to Fraser, come back and been told that the luggage storage had been broken into!! Each one of 64 bags had been gone through and EVERYTHING of value was taken - laptops/passports/cash/credit cards/make up....and basically they had just thrown all the contents of everyones bags on the floor. They had broken padlocks and slashed bags...I've never heard anything like it! Some people lost basically everything of value! Absolutely mental, don't know what I would have done! Kinda freaked me out a bit to hear about it, but it was actually pretty good because I was getting really lazy with locking things up and stuff - you get very trusting of other people very easily!
I had dinner and chatted to the couple from my room who were really nice, and a group of their friends they had met on Fraser Island. It was good craic, and there was a local girl doing fire throwing and stuff which was very random haha but cool. Hadn't seen that since Asia! Didn't have a very late night though, think I faded and hit bed by around half 10!
