(10 October)
Today we did a hell of a lot of the temples of Angkor. We got up at 4 to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. Bit gutted because it was so cloudy we couldn't see the sun but it was still pretty class! When we arrived it was pitch black, could only just about see the ground with our guide's torch - no-one even thought of bringing one! So had no idea what was around us or anything, just trying to keep my feet as dry as possible haha. We basically walked for about 10 minutes and then were told to sit. And then it started to get brighter! We realised we were sitting on a monument type thing, and gradually saw Angkor Wat appear in front of us. It really was class, despite the clouds! When the sun was up we walked around it and heard some stories about it, then at about 9 went back to the hotel for breakfast. It was so crazy walking back to the bus over a bridge across a river and seeing the view and all when we hadn't seen anything on the way in!
Breakfast was a buffet again, not as awesome as bangkok but still good, lovely pancakes and fruit! We had a rest for about an hour then headed for more temples! We went to Ta Phrom next I think which was my favourite! Apparently it's where tomb raider was filmed...so much talk about Angelina Jolie from out guide lol! It was absolutely beautiful though, when it was found, trees had grown around the temple, and the roots had destroyed a lot of it. The trees are amazing, they grow on top of the building and everything! Wait for the photos! It has only partly been rebuilt so really dies feel like some magical lost place. We visited a lot of temples that day, I can't remember all the names but they were really cool. We managed to get stuck at the top of the tallest one when it started to absolutely chuck it down...we tried to wait it out but ended up donning our ponchos and half crawling down the huge steep stone steps which were turning into a bit of a waterfall! At lunch we tried fried red ant (yes, I actually ate it!) which didn't really taste as much...o definitely went for a bit with less legs etc though haha. There was so much to this day I don't think I would have made it through without an emergency pro plus after breakfast, but once I had it it was fine!
We got back to the hotel around 5 for a shower etc, then went for dinner. It was really good, a huge buffet with Khmer and western food, there was fried chicken that was actually unreal haha. After the food there was traditional Khmer dancing which was so cool! Loved it, especially with the younger dancers when it was a bit faster!
Most people just went straight to bed afterwards as it was about 9 and we were shattered! But I felt like I hadn't seen anything of the town so went with Hitomi and Mariko to the night Market! We got a tuk tuk through the floods, and waded through to the Market. On the way in they had those fish that eat the dead skin off your feet... I tried to out my hand in but was too scared of the fish to even do that...maybe another day... The stalls were pretty cool, but wasn't far in before a girl tried to get me to get my nails done! It didn't take much convincing, and $8 and about 40 minutes I'd had a manicure and pedicure and gorgeous flower patterns on my nails! Was actually awesome...I'm gonna end up hooked on all these treats that are mega expensive at home if I'm not careful! After that we went home and finally got to bed! Was shattered!
